Bed time rant

Im sitting here cause I cant sleep, and Im looking for wheels for my 72. Now, pretty much every single GM muscle/sports car from 67 to 92 all had the same bolt pattern and back spacking of 5x4.75 and 4.5 backspacing...
When the **** did GM brainstorm the idea of ****ing that all up? There are a lot of nice rims that fit 4th gen and C4-5-6 Vettes, but will not work for OLDER cars because of back spacing. Why did they do that? I would so love to put a set of ZR1's on my 72 without going to spacers. Just SOMETHING!!
I dont belive in spacers, they scare me. Its like all that is there are Torque Thrusts and its 20 different types and rip offs, Rally wheels, or stock. There isnt much else out there unless you put on spacers. Can someone tell me why no one makes wheels for cars built by the largest car company in the world? Im tired of the TT2 look, and im not 100% sold on the Rally look as I have not seen any 2nd gens with them on.

If anyone has any ideas on wheels, real ideas so dont be throwing up pics of 22 inch spinners or 100 spoke gold pimp rims, I mean rims that would fit the car, AND look good, please post up!!!

it sort of depends what look you are going for.
if you want a classic ground pounder look the rally's, a slotted mag, or a TTd woudl be great looks in a 15inch rim.
if you wanna get more of the modern street machine with upsized rims look there are tons of options. weld rod lites(i am lookin at these for my 76) can be had in 15-18inch sizes i believe, or the billet specialties "vintec" and "vintec dish" series wheels(really stylie wheels, just too heavy for my racin gblood )) would look good.
give me a clearer idea what style you are after and i can find you examples of wheels to check out.

crager SS rims are making a comeback, and they're available in sizes 15-20", various backspacing. classic muscle car fare, chrome 5 spokes.

and they're even available on ebay... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Craga...13949576QQrdZ1

The stock Z28 5 spoke rims always look great on the 2nd gen cars and there usually not too expensive on Ebay. Or the classic look of slots look great too.

one thing to consider when you look at wheels is the stance you are going for. second gens, like most f-bodies, look tons better if they come down 1-1.5 inches.
classic slot is ddefinately a cool look. i think a 15inch TTd would be another classic muscle car look to consider.

Dunno if its been mentioned, but SLP makes ZR1 rims that fit thirdgens and should fit your second gen as well. Damn only $500 for the set, thats cheap as hell! Used to be ALOT more than that!

I really dont like Craiger style rims. Dunno what it is about them, they just look like crap. Sorry, just IMO they dont look right on anything. Too much lip, not enough spoke, and it looks very cheap.

ZR1's are awesome. I want them, but spacers...I could do the Third Gen wheels, but I hate that they are 17x8 only. ****ing SLP should have had the insight to see that 17x8 aint gunna cut it, and that 17x9 is where they want to be. Oh well, SLP blows anyway.

TT2's are also super sexy, but are very common and are on a lot of cars. Sexy, but too many.

Still looking...looking at ROH now.

Yeah the size was everyones gripe... Granted you can fit a nice size tire on an 8" rim so to me its not a big deal. If you want traction, your not getting it out of a street tire anyway... thats what DR's are for.

I don't think they would look as good on a Second gen as on a Third or Fourth. Just something about that combo doesn't appeal to me.
