eastside performance
anyone have any experience with them, especially tuning? How do they compare with the local f body shops? Please don't suggest the local shops - I know who and where they are - just looking for info on how eastside compares to them
Thanks

Never heard of them. Where are they?
I'd have to say TTP is your best bet probably.
I personally like F-Body Central in Baltimore, Maryland they do great work. It's a hike from here but my brother lives there so I usually make the trip to visit him anyway.
TTP kinda rubbed me the wrong way though when they said $650 for gears installed and that they won't do headers on an LT1 car. Some shop huh...

yeah they're up in CT - i know a local guy who had rapid, cartek and ttp each tune his car to a best of 390 rwhp and 36x tq with crap driveability then went up to eastside and put down 420rwhp and 39x tq and it driveability is like stock -both sets of numbers are SAE
i'm thinking maybe someone else might have had a similar experience. i'm looking for better driveability and i'm sure my combo is able to put down 20-30rwhp & about 20-25 ft-lbs more than it is

I think Kevin(nogo) does the tuning for them...from what ive read hes very knowledgible but you pay alot for that knowledge...I think they are in the $550-600 range for tuning now.

The $650 (actually $685) is for the parts, labor, and technical knowledge to do the job right the first time. Not accusing any shop or person in peticular, but some out there will not change over to all new bearings, crush collar. ect... We really don't have the need to beat out anyone's pricing since we get enough gear change jobs to start with.

I like TTP, they did my whole 12 Bolt rear install with 4:10 gears and was great price I think around around $375. Mike & Matt are cool guys and take care of you the shop knows their stuff. I would go back to them for any work! Like Mike said their install is only listed at $375 right on their website. THey are good peeps. Mike is also great if you get lost.... like I did an drive the longest route in history to find the place. He talked me over the phone the whole way there, he is a great guy.

i put down 414rwhp/380tq with 232/234 .595/.598 @112 cam, ported 5.3L headsw/ 2.04 & 1.575 valves milled .010, UD pulley, LS6 intake, LT's, TSP catted y, TSP rumbler catback, lid
these numbers came on an 86* day with 30% humidity and an SAE correction factor of 1.00 - i don't know how correction factors work, but i know the temp and humidity were less than ideal and i figure the hi flow cats are robbing me <5hp and tq
as for track times - my clutch pedal started sticking to the floor at WOT runs about a week after my tune and i haven't gotten around to fixing it so I don't have any track times yet

the problem with going from one tuner shop to the next is that they all tune generally the same way using the same things...and when you go with your own custom setup ie head/cam/converter/gears instead of one of theirs they might not have any hours of ever working with that combo...each combinatino needs time to learn what it likes & doesnt like...they are there to make money and try and get you in and out in 5hrs or less & move on to the next car and maybe make small changes at your request once you report back. In my experience if your gonna go to a tuner shop to do your tune either have a bolt on only car or have them do your entire car ie heads/cam/converter they can/will make you very fast because they already knows what works. If your gonna do your own heads/cam pkg and what have you do the tuning yourself or find someone who will spend the time needed to make the car more drivable. Your friend may have found the light at the end of the tunnel but at what expense? apparently $2500 in tuning costs. He couldve bought a tuning program, a very good laptop, a wideband, egt setup & still had money left over for at least a partial payment on a 12 bolt lol. Its up to you but I would just hate for you to drive 100 miles or whatever it is up to eastside and face the same fate as your friend...$1100 in the hole & still no light at the end of the tunnel.

hi flow cats can rob alot more then that depending on how the person tunes for them....remember the stock a/f commanded on an ls1 aims for like 11.5:1 at wot...a good part of that is to keep the cats alive at high temps...the computer dumps in extra fuel to cool them down...thats the cot adder...if thats deleted & the tuner shoots for 13.0:1 or higher your cats will eventually blow out...so its a double edged sword...if he aims for 12.5:1 maybe they dont blow out as quick but you'll loose some hp but make more tq generally speaking. And dyno #'s are only a tool man keep that in mind... few people drive to and from a dyno every day lol. Track times/mph and driveability is where its at...im kinda biased in that i dont want a 10 second car that i cant drive every day...id want something that i can drive to the mall and back with no bucking or surging or hunting and just be able to light them up whenever i feel the need...the hit the track, run the # and say have a nice day.
