Yaple Motorsports '06 Campaign
as some of you may remember from that last time i talked about randy's racing he had the same smacked ass wipe out his second car of the season. after a verbal confrontation with the offending dick wad, celebrating his rookie championship at the awards banquet, and saving up some money for '06 we are finally ready to get to work on next years program.
we brought home randy's new race car from the powder coater today. chassis is bright red. looks really cool.
the new car is an '05 Lawrence Engineering. the chassis was actually built last year but wasn't sold until some sponsors picked it up for randy.
we are going to get started hanging parts on the car this weekend. basically every free minute between saturday and late march when new egypt speedway opens will be spent prepping and double checking the car to make sure everything is ready to go.
i will get some pics of the car up this weekend.

Tim and I are the regular pit crew. His dad is usually around too, and sometimes a few others are around to help as well.

Heh - I don't know if Mike has the balls to race anywhere near Randy after the conversation they had at the end of last season. I believe Randy's final words went something along the lines of "If you try to bring that POS car of yours anywhere near to wrecking me next year, I'll have no problem putting you out on 539 (name of street that the track is on....)."

i will get teh pics up later tonight.
talked to randy about his engine, or at least what is left of it
going into the off season we knew the block had a small stitch weld in the lifter galley from an old crack. NBD since it presssure tested fine. since then it was found that the exhaust valve guides were completely gone, the crank had 3 cracks in it, the cam was completely f'ed up, and today's news THREE CRACKED PISTONS!!!!!!
the pistons were actually cracked in the face, not around the wrist pin like it usually happens.
the scary thing is how many guys he passed with this time bomb under the hood.
new manley pistons were ordered today, motor should be back together with all new junk inside in about two weeks.

The Really Red Jungle Gym
a few shots of the car as promised
we got a few more things done after i remembered to take the pictures. brake lines are partially run, front axle is together, discovered that the new hubs need a different brake caliper bracket than the old ones, put the spare front axle together, layed in the top portion of the throttle linkage, made a list of need parts(this is a daily thing), andtalked about the slug that was welded wlightly off on the chassis so the car has to go back to the shop to have a little grinding done.
we also figured out that the powder coating job that looked really good in the dark when we picked the car up is really ******. coating is flaking off all over it and there are bunches of little bubbles and spots you can tell there was dirt sitting on the surface when it was coated. it was paid for by a sponsor, so not the worst thing in the world, just some bad surface prep.
overall a lot got done in the last 2 nights. having the car 5minutes from my house, and in the garage attached to randy's house, is a huge improvement over teh 25-35 minute drive to the shop he used last year.

i can't wait til teh season starts.
as good as he did last year with all junk parts i know he is gonna have a great season with such an updated car.
the stuff he has is by no means state of the art, but having stuff that is only 5 years outdated as compared to the 10-15 year outdated stuff he ran with last year is a huge improvement. lol and that is the good stuff.
he has a trans that is most likely older than him, he has a steering box that could be as old as me, a motor that is prolly 50hp down on the guys who win all the time, and only 1/2 a season under his belt. shoudl be an interesting summer

Sounds like you guys are off to a good start
Hopefully I'll be able to contribute more before the season starts this year, now that he'll be working out of his own garage.
