Scary sight

This morning, I woke up to the sound of what I thought were big trucks, perhaps tanks, rolling down my street. It was loud and thunderd.
I snapped out of bed, and looked around....nothing on the ground, so I looked to the sky. My eyes had to adjust a bit, but I saw 3 Blackhawk helicopters flying over my house at a pretty good speed. I didnt have time to focus, one might have been a AH-1 Cobra, i dunno. They were heading north and quickly.
I snap to my computer and talk to Koll. Within 5 mins of it happening, he tells me that there were 8 flying over his house.

Anyway, Id like to thank the US Armed Forces for the wakeup call this morning.

Well, yes when they fly less then 1000ft over your house at about 125mph, they make a very distictive noise that made me jump out of bed.

On second thought, you're going to need to be probed, "Big Al's pants, COME ON DOWN!!!"

You haven't heard loud until 10 UH-1B Huey's have flown over at less than 100 feet on their way to Pope Air Force Base. I was in training at Ft Bragg, in a field that was a stones throw from the huge fence between Bragg lands and Pope fields, and had to stop training until they flew far enough away that we could talk again. Everyone pulled out their orange ear plugs just to keep the brain from shaking to pieces.

Loud is standing behind four F-14D's on full afterburner take off, or two B-1B's. It's so loud your ear drums go into compression.

One day I was standing in the street talking to a friend that was inside his car... I hear a rumble, and look up to see an F-16 flying pretty low at a GOOD rate of speed. When he got over us, it was so loud I couldnt hear a word my friend said. That was cool.

Then there were the ROTC days at Ft. Dix at the obstacle course. Sitting at the top of the cargo net climb for about 2 hours with kc10's going over your head right after take off gets a little ear piercing at times.

as far as we are from ft dix/mcguire and the other end pomona, we still get them fairly close to the ground here. it is a comforting sound.
