Mazda MX-6 Turbo

A kid in my town is selling a 91 mazda MX-6 turbo...anyone know if these things are pieces of **** or not? i drove it, its about as fast as my GP but it seems like it leaks boost - the rubber boost pipes are probably leaking. he wants $1200 OBO for it, it needs brakes, has new tires, boost gauge, blow off valve, manual boost controller, new fog lights, valve cover gasket. i work at an auto parts store and im competent enough to do the brakes myself, so thats like $150 at the most. If i buy this, i wont be able to do the motor swap in my GP, and id just replace the transmission instead and keep it as a DD, and have the MX6 as my project car.

so what im asking is, is a turbo MX6 a piece of ****, hows the aftermarket, are parts expensive/hard to find? and should i do this instead of working on the GP?

i probably shouldnt have even posted this here, cause ill probably get some meatheads saying "omg its not american rwd v8 it sucks!" but oh well.

If the integrity of the car is questionable, I would skip it. Modded L67 in sleeper GP GT is way cooler IMO.

i say do whatever you want, just don't turn it into rice...i really don't really care what kind of car you have, just as long as you are happy with it...i know that you can probably do a lot of aftermarket work on an MX6, and i have heard good things about them...and ignore the meatheads who say **** and do whatever you want...and i am here too if you ever want/need help with anything

it would most likely become a full on budget racer...stripped interior, no system or anything, all money spent on performance. anyone know of any mazda forums? i looked, only came up with mazdaforums.com and they appear to suck.

That could be a fun car then, I didn't know that you wanted it just as a racer. I've seen a forum dedicated to mazdaspeed stuff, I don't remember the address though.

my friend at school had one, quick little car. Try to get the price down closer to 1k, if you can then I say buy it. It would definitly be a fun car.

*EDIT*

Why is it that when someone wants to try a car thats not made in america (even though it probably was) everyone jumps in and calls them a ricer? Its only rice if you put a fart pipe on it and a huge wing and all that crap. leaving the body stock and working the motor over is definitly not being a ricer. I love american cars just as much as anyone else, but other cars made in other countries can go fast and handle well too. I look for what the car has to offer before I even begin to care about who makes it.

i talked to him today, offered him 800 cause it needs brakes, he said maybe without the stereo/boost controller/boost gauge. i couldnt care less about the stereo, so i said ok, 900 with the boost controller/gauge (and it had some other stuff, a greddy something i forget what he told me) and he said maybe to that too. he said he already has the stuff to do the brakes, so maybe ill pay like 950 for it without the "system" (sorry excuse for one). IF he ever gets another car to replace it that is...he says hes gonna finance an RX8. who knows

i know someone VERY knowledgable on these cars. i mean, he can tell you what size wrench to use when dropping the motor. he even used to do motor swaps for a living on ford probes (identical car). if you want me to get his number for you i can. he can tell you EVERYTHING you will ever want to know about this car. not to mention the kid is very nice and is a damn genious
