Possible Problem with LS1 Coolant - NJFBOA - Home of New Jersey's Camaros and Firebirds

I did some searches on LS1Tech and found some things that could be the problem... figured Id ask here for opinions. Since I had the water pump replaced, I hadn't checked the coolant. So today after work, thats what I did. I pulled the coolant stick out of the resevoir today and there was dirt clogged up in the rivets. I cant confirm nor deny that it is in fact dirt, but when i wiped a rag on it, it was a **** brown, almost like I wiped my ass (not being gross tho) . I cant get a proper reading on the coolant, so before I take it out cruising again, Im gonna try to figure this problem out before it gets real serious. Thanks

the dextron coolant gets to be nasty as hell after a few years even thought its supposed to have a i think a 5 year/100,000 mile warenty on it. The vette's is gonna need changing soon as it is smelling like **** rubber and my buddies 99 gmc siera still has the original coolant in it and it aint pretty at all. My advice is to do a simple flush and clean out the over flow tank and you should be good. There has also been cases of this happening in the blazers and it is clogging up their heater cores. The coolant in them is turning into a slushy red.

The only problem with Dexcool is that it reacts worse to minerals and deposits in tap water worse than green stuff does. If you are careful to flush your system out good, you can add more Dexron, just make sure that you mix it with distilled water, not tap water.

dexron is transmission fluid

dexcool seems to get crapped up a lot, but yeah ive heard that thing about using tap water screwing it up. id say do a full flush and refill it with dexcool and distilled water and it should be good
