Anyone see the video of the race crash?
It's a nasty accident. Dana (part of Danika's team) passed away from it. It's been on CNN and ESPN all day.

the story i heard was that carpenter got out of shape and lost it. dana was left with no place to go as there was a car to his outside. impact was not at full spee, but enough to send dan flying into the wall.
homestead is a very fast circuit for these cars, so even if he was scrubbing speed, he was still clipping pretty good when he got to patrick's spun vehicle.

Yes, Carpenter lost it, hit the upper wall, spun into the lower line and Dana ran right into him. First report I heard was Dana was over 100mph, though the SI story says close to 200.

He was going 176mph when he hit. Terrible news.

paul dana was a great story for racing. he is an amazing talent who never had the money or backing to go big time. he worked his ass off and made it happen. he took jobs as a reprter, cleaning shops, as a personal assistant, and anything else he coudl do to be around the sport.
shame this all happened when he finally got his shot at the big time.
carpeter is still in the hospital as of the 3:30 press announcements. he has a bad concussion and basically hurts all over. no life threatening injuries, but he will likely be out of the car for a week or so.

i saw the video before on Speed.
Carpenter hit the wall hard and ended up right in the center groove. a few cars made it around him no problem. Dana was doing 176 and had no where to go. Dana split Carpenter's car in half. Dana's car was launched into the air and landed bottom side up before it went into the wall.

that was almost identical to the crash that took Zanardi's legs off...but the outcome was sadly much worse Further proof that these guys(and girl) have huge ones to get into those cars days in and days out...Rahal did the right thing by pulling his racers out of the race...would not have felt right driving under those circumstances... RIP
