Does anyone play hockey?
Because I need to know how to tell what size stick is good. Is it measured when your on skates or when your in your regular shoes? does size really matter (as long as its not real little or not real long)

I don't play, but one of our friends who played all through highschool says it should come up to your chin, but i can't remember if it was with skates on or off. I'm gonna say on.

o ok, I guess ill need a new stick...
has any one ever bought bour(sp?) skates? I cant remember if i ever had them, and if i did they were roller hockey skates. Im so tempted to get all mission gear but the price is real high. also, whats the difference between roller and ice hockey, because i never EVER ice skated before, should I go and try to skate before I invest all the money into equipment?

I've skated Baur, CCM and Mission before. All very good skates, just comes down to which ones you like better. I liked the Baur's the best, but who knows, you might like another brand.

I can't play anymore but the general rule is up to your chin on skates however if you like a smaller stick then play with that(God that sounded gay lol).
Peter Forsberg plays with a REALLY small stick which allows him to puck handle so well. Then you have players like Chara who has a stick that could probably reach from Philly to NYC
It's all personal preference

Ice hockey kicks ass. You want the stick to to your chin as a starting point, but alittle longer or short is ok, you'll find your sweet spot. As for skates, Baurer, CCM, Mission probably all about the same. I've always had Bauer (92's, 1000's, 3000's, 5000's) Best bank for the buck is the 3000's, in my opinion. I've never played alot of roller, but it's kinda sucky compared to real ice hockey....The movements are similar, but you can stop and start and cut much faster on ice than playing roller, or at least that was my experience.
Before you buy anything, try skating...then find out whether it's check or non-check type league. Most adult leagues are non check and I don't even where shoulder pads when I play, just like racing lighter=faster.....definitely want a good helmet, pants, shin pads, elbow pads....don't drop tons of money on gloves, ain't worth it. A $60 pair will do the same for you as a $100 pair...you don't need carbon fiber this or full leather....just a basic glove that fits correctly....
Roller is better than street, but nothing compares to being on the ice...
Chris

if you're on your skates it should be up to about your chin; if you're in shoes it should be up to your nose.. offensemen tend to like a shorter stick, you get a better feel and it helps to keep the puck closer to your body (better, more effective stick handling). a defensemen tends to have a longer stick for more range, a longer sweep. ccm tacks are solid, and the older models are probably pretty cheap now. and check with local rinks or organizations cos some have used gear sales.. stuff can get expensive. floyd hall on the montclair state university has two rinks, fairly new, nice place to skate. roller and ice hockey are a lot different if you ask someone that plays only ice.. roller hockey players tend to stick handle more and pass less because there is no hitting. ice hockey is more stops and starts along with full-body checking.

Thanks guys, this is for a school team, our first hockey team, and the way its working is we are going to make a team to form a legue, the same coach and the people that want to play on the school team next year can play, its optional, and since I have never played ice, i would like to try it.
