Stupid cam question

Okay this is prolly stupid...I have a cam that i had in my 93 z...as you all prolly know, your supposed to push in the dowl pin on that year cam. well i know have a 96, well stupid me had the machine shop cut off part of the dowl...can i have the dowl thats in there taken out, and put a new correct lenght one in? will this work? Its not an extremley aggressive cam, but definatly nnot stock either...any insight on this would be helpful, cuz i needa go faster, and due to money, need to reuse some older parts...

I don't see how it would be too difficult for them to do that. Just a few bucks in machine work...

Just to add to what Justin said:

If the shop doesn't have the pin GM and Comp Cam sells them. Just make sure they set the pin at the correct lenght or it could damage the Opti. I'm told GM blueprint is .605" but most feel .615"-.620" seems safer, allot of manuals list anywhere from .595" to .685", but that seems a bit extreem.

On my 93 I run a vented conversions with a cloye double timing set and elect. water pump. I set the pin to .625".

If your using a none GM timing set on a 92-93 LT1 or an aftermarket Opti ( 95+ LT1) you will need to double check with them for the proper lenght.
