update on the car
i thought last weds i only popped a head gasket on the last run of the strip.
i didi in fact pop the drivers side, i encoutnered detonation on cylinder 3and it blew it out to cylinder 5. the block and pistons are not damaged neither are the rings.
a small portion of the combustion chamber disintegrated (i guess it blew the small piece off and out the pipe or it disintegrated). so i ordered new heads
i had brodix 180 race rites and now ordered the 200 full cnc machined heads. so ill see an improvement on the performance definitely.
if anyone is interested in the old heads let me know, htey are repairable i called brodix and it would cost $150 to fix the one chamber. let me know

At least nothing in the motor itself was hurt. Those heads should make a nice improvement, and you should have the car running again soon.

thats a pretty lucky turnout to have detonated a cylinder. when i did it to my zz4 it melted 3 pistons and the block had to be bored

It's only natural that situations are much more catastrophic when it's YOUR car/engine/whatever than anyone else's

79 diva, i was worried too, believe me, i just put 7 grand in this motor last year and i was so worried when i was taking it apart. i thought i got away with just hte gaskets but the cimbustion chamber was whacked out but liek i said $1200 for new heads beats alot of the other stuff that couldve gone wrong.
zz4's also used a hyper piston if i remmeber correctly, and theyre parts are good from gm with what htey have in them but theyre far from aftermarket stuff. when you grenaded that were you spraying it?
