A/F gauge problem

i didnt know which forum this should be under, so ill just post it here. Just got an autometer A/F gauge from another forum. went and hooked it up, having a bit of a problem...gauge reads full lean, and the car will start running like it has a vacuum line pulled off and will stall. If i unhook the gauge again, it runs perfect. I can leave the signal wire connected and it runs fine, but as soon as a connect the power wire, it starts to run like ****. any ideas?

Are you 100% sure that you have it wired up correctly?

I agree. It sounds like you are sending power over the signal wire or something like that.

Is this in your GP? Are you using the A/F pigtail?

99.9% sure its wired correctly, red wire to positive, black to ground, and the signal wire to the purple wire off the O2 sensor. not using the pigtail, used a scotch connector to connect to the wire so i didnt have to cut it.

Do you have a good ground (i.e is it grounded to something unpainted, with a star washer, etc)?

yep. i even tried taking it out of the pod and connecting it directly to the battery, same thing happens. maybe something came loose inside the gauge itself and is shorting on the signal wire?

just tested it with a multimeter. 29mV on the signal wire, i guess thats enough to throw it off. is it possible to take these gauges apart? i could send it back to autometer for repair but i didnt pay much for the gauge to begin with, so its not really worth it

I've got a new sport comp gauge, cup, and pigtail that I could part with if you are interested... I was going to put it in my GTP but I've got no room. None of the stuff has been used, just taken out of the packaging.

Well, the original prices of the stuff are:

From Summit:
Autometer Sport Comp 2 1/16 AF gauge- 51.88
Autometer 2 1/16 gauge cup - 12.95

From ZZP:
Casper's AF gauge pigtail - 15.00

So the original prices total 79.83 without shipping.

Everything is brand new but out of package. You can have it all for $60 shipped or if you've got other GP parts, let me know what you have. I may be intrested.

Matt, did you try letting the person you bought it from know that the gauge is messed up? You might have an honest seller that will give your money back....
