Front tires hitting ground effects in turns

Anyone have or had this problem? Its a 92 Camaro RS. I rebuilt the entire front suspension. With moog front end kit, spohn tublar a arms, spohn wonder bar, kyb struts and strut bearing plates, suspention techniques sway bar, moog z28 replacemnet springs and the big brake upgrade LS1 front brake kit. I also ut a new quick ratio steering box in. I got everything together and I got it as close as I could to the settings of the old stuff. Obivously I still need to get it aligned. I took it for a quick right around the block to make sure everything was working when I heard a scrubbing noise in turns. I went back home and saw that the outside egde of the tires were touching the rocker panel ground effect on both the driver and passenger side when turn the wheel all the way. I tried adjusting the sturt plate a little and I do have a set of Z06 wheels (that I was saving to put on after the car was painted), I put them on with the spacers and they did the same thing. Thanks in advance for any help.

Do you have stock 245/50/16's on the 16x8s? There were some that rubbed from the factory, but it wasn't bad.

I say get it aligned, and if it's still bad, then go over everything again to see whats up....

The Z06 wheels have 275/40 17 and the stock wheels have 235/55 16

That could be why it's hitting. The 235/55/16 tires are 0.53" taller (26.18 for the 235s vs 25.65 for the 245s). That extra height is pushing it closer to the gfx. Get the right size tires on them (245/50/16) and you prolly won't have an issue.

The 275/40/17 is the same height as the 245/50/16, but it's almost an inch and a half wider, so it's gonna be close to the gfz when you turn as well.

Here is the pics of the wheels on the car. I just noticed that the tire also just touches the sway bar

Do those LCAs have steering stops on them like the stock ones did (should have)?

Are those wheels meant for a 3rd gen? They don't look like they fit too well.....

Spacer might be too big.

The stocks wheels did the same thing. The spacers are correct as calculated per the wheels offset. There is no difference from the two wheels as far as hitting the ground effects and sway bar. The new tubular a arms do not have stops. Before I rebuilt the suspension and just had the new sway bar the stock wheels and tires would slightly rub the sway bar as well only in a hard turn. The same is here now with the rebuilt suspension.

Well, as I said before, you have the wrong size tires on the stock rims, so that's part of the problem.

I would go get a good alignment, and point out your current problem to the shop that does it.

Well thats what I figured. Im not going to use the stock wheels anymore. Im going to sell the stock front wheels and keep the rears to put a set of slicks on them for when I go to the track. Its seems that a few people had this problem as well in the TGO boards but no one had a deffinet solution to the problem. One guy did the same thing as me and had the same problem. He said it went away as the suspension settled. We will see when I get it aligned next week but it is still a night and difference in driving with all new suspesion front and rear.

But the 91 - 92 RS did come with that size because I brought my other 92 RS new and it came with 235/55 16 from the factory.

It looks like you need to crank in some positive caster that will push the tire forward , from the bottom. good luck with it

I had the same thing with my stock 16"s and have it with my 17"s (17's are the same overall diamter though) Only when the wheel is cut all the way though, it barely rubs, but you hear it.

Yeah after getting it aligned, the tires were still hitting, but not as bad. I had to file a spot on the ground effects were they mount to the fender well and bang back the fender well a little at the bottom. Its much better but it still touches but only when your turn the wheels all the way so I can live with that for now.

Nope just the inner edge hits if I hold the wheel on the stop. If I let off a little it stops touching.
