Wow....must have been flying in order to split a mustang in half....

Sucks to hear that the passenger died, but that's the price you pay when you race on the street.

at least it wasnt someone pulling into the intersection after buying his kids soccer team ice cream that died.........he knew what was gonna happen when he got into that mustang, so he was as involved as the drivers, both of whom should be charged with vehicular manslaughter

had a guy that was a year younger than me in HS die because of a street race. I got to know him over the years he worked at the auto parts store with me, and was a good kid, barely had his license a few months too. He had his seatbelt on and had he not they say he most likely would have lived. The passenger of the car made it out alive. The High School has had a car show in his memory every year since.

It takes a kid to streetrace, but a real man to take it to the track. I hope both of the drivers have recurring nightmares for the rest of their lives.

oh man, thats horrible. But to the credit of the guy that died, perhaps they were just driving and they spotted the camaro and the driver decided to race it, leaving the passengers to just hold on for the ride

the general consensus seems to be that the two cars were speeding...60-70 and hit a dip in the road and lost control...im not gunna jump on the "they were racing" bandwagon

also, ive seen racing vids from both drivers and the passenger, and they seem like they have half a clue to where they wouldnt run their car in wet conditions, which were the conditions the night of the accident

i wonder if the passenger who passed on was wearing his belt. i wouldnt be surprised if he was half way out the window trying to get a pic on his camera phone or something. its depressing either way.

i post on another forum which was frequented by all three of the people involved

edit: also from what i can tell only one witness of many said the cars were racing...how many people here have been accused of being deep in the throttle just because of an aftermarket exhaust? would it be a big jump to say that that witness believed they were racing due to the two car's loud exhausts?

yeah i might streetrace from time to time, but NEVER when its wet out and where i do it is definately not busy. no houses on the road, its literally like a 2-3 mile straightaway. no intersections. gotta be the "responsible" street racer. i had some jackass in a 96-98 mustang try to race me from a roll on delsea drive in vineland when there's cars like 20 feet in front of us. I shook my head no. sorry buddy No dice, no dice. Hey as a matter of fact i usually see him drive by once or twice during our meets at the roadhouse.

i would consider it more than someone jsut being accused of going fast when the impact was great enough to split a car in half.
we all give in to the temptation to dig into the go peddle sometimes, but any intelligent person will leave that in some level of moderation. to be going fast enough to rip a car in half is far beyond the reasonable limits of safe driving on a public road, regardless of weather conditions.

there was a guy a couple years ago that crashed his MR2 into a telephone pole racing around a corner on a hill. The car went airborn and hit the pavement nose first and then spun into the pole. He was decapitated and partially ejected from the car, while his hand remained on the shifter and his foot on the pedal. His girlfriend was in the car and she survived, but she was covered in the remains of her boyfriend. Terrible..... he was only 17 and had his license for only a few weeks.

Is the video link DOA? I don't see it.

The car was split in half? Yeah, that isn't just driving. Generally speaking, the problem with street racing (or just driving too fast/aggressive in general) is the life you end might not be your own. It's a bush league move. And it gives all motorheads a black eye.

Um, yeah, if he wasn't 'racing', then he was at a mininmum speeding way beyond a reasonable limit. That doesn't even look like a highway, more like a local road.
