Anyone else find this rediculous?

So I went to my mechanic to have my car aligned and have my dipstick thrown back in all the way (long story). So He says you can come at 1 and my friend drops me off at 12. Much to my delight he says that its almost done and they just need to throw your dipstick in he block all the way. I sit there and watch it get throw on the lift and say o this will take 10mins. So an hour later he comes to me and says we couldnt get your dipstick in because your starter is in the way. I asked him why he didnt just drop the start and he tells me that my 3" Y is in the way of the starter dropping all the way. I say alright dont worry about it right now and have him write the charge up.

Ok now to finish

He comes back and says I have to charge you something for them trying to do this dipstick. My point is that it takes 10mins to throw a car up on a lift and realise you cant get the starter out. I'm basically pissed because instead of telling me after they did it they waited pretty much exactly an hour staring at it before they told me. It just doesnt seem right that you run into a problem and for some reason wait an hour to tell the person who is sitting right there. If I had known it was going to take dropping the Ypipe i would have said forget it... Plus this is the same shop that gave me a $250 quote to put a gas guage sender in and charged me $500. Long story short they took an hour to do something that should take 10mins and it just seems fishy, almost like they did it on purpose so they could charge me.

Are you saying that it is rediculous that they charged you, or that they couldn't get it fixed?

I think he means both..

Its not redicoulous, the mechanic was wasting his time doing it, they loose money, when they cant perform a job within the time in the book..

Thats what i was told by two or three members...

which dip stick was it?

I know he was wasting time thats my point. Its rediculous that because the guy took 10mins and realised if he asked me I would say forget it he blew an hour. He wasted my time and my money and its not the first time. Even my dad (its his "trusted" mechanic) agrees with me. I think anyone who knows a crank from a cam can say that it doesnt take an hour to figure out you can pull a starter out.

Its ******** is all it is.

1. Welcome to having a modified car worked on by someone else. Ka-ching.
2. If it is so easy, do it yourself.
3. If you are not happy, find a new mechanic.

Honestly, if that was my shop, I would have stopped after 10 minutes and let you know - because I would at minimum have charged at least full book R&R time x1.5 for the starter - then you probably would have cried if it took me less time then I charged you.

Yeah because I'm the one that just asked for the smart ass comment. Lemme tell ya... And I'm definatly stepping up right to wayfasts place because I go around begging to be made fun of all the time. Sorry that you dont agree with this thread and that $60 lost is a big deal for me. As far as my car going back to the mechanic that already did it to me my dad makes me go back to that mechanic sorry for that ass.

If you are paying, you should choose where to go. Anything else is 'ridiculous'.
