K&N Air Filter
Whats the best way to go about cleaning them??

we have always put them in a bucket of hot water and simple green -- for 20 min hosed out from the inside to the out -- so anything trapped will be flushed away -- let stand out to dry - than reinstall - other people may have a different way this is ours --- jz

Don't forget to oil it before you reinstall.

+1 for the oil!
you can pick it up at AutoZone or Advance Auto for like 10 bux...the filter cleaning kit is a PITA because you have to sit there pumping that damn pump spray on the filter....choking and gagging all the while. with the bucket of simple green, you just drop it in and go watch football

so just plop it in a bucket of simple green for 20 min, hose it off, let dry, oil it and plop that sucker back on?

Just don't over do it with the oil. Too much is known to cause problems with the MAF.

i just buy a new one if its too dirty, and sell the old one off, after hearing problems with people oiling them too much and, like ls1hawk said, damaging the MAF.

Ya, the K&N Cleaner says something like Brush it off, spary cleaner on (which will build your index finger muscle), wait 20-30mins, rinse cleaner off from inside, then spray oil and wait another 20-30mins....I agree with the bucket and simple green.

Ya, too much is a nono. Just oil it enough so it changes color, don't soak it.

If you put a bit of oil in strategic spots, it will be fine. The oil will eventually work its way through the filter.

I think the instructions say to just run a line of oil across each ridge, inside and out, and let it work it's way in from there.
Make sure you let it dry completely before you oil it.....

Causes less restriction on the incomming air so you get more HP.
Actually, it helps finer elements get trapped by the filter.
