Tranny go boom

So I was o Hamburg Turnpike in wayne... coming from wendys area towards willy p, i went WOT to pass a shuttle bus... car downshift fine, but when it went to upshift stuttered a few times then BANG! and felt liek the car jumped. Friend in the car started freaking out thinking we were gonna die or something lol... well that got worse when we got to a red light.

Gear selector was in OD as always... light goes green, I step on the gas aaaaaaand... start rolling backwards with the engine just revving in neutral. Looked down to make sure i was still in OD and I was... ptu it down into 1 and it engaged and i got to move, shifted into second and it almost broke my neck lol, shifted into D once moving and it revved a few hundred, then hesitated, then went into 3rd... put it to OD and nothing, just revving.

Next stop sign tried takign off in D.... nope, not happening. Then tried 2 and it worked... tried putting it back into D when going under 15 mph annnnd theres nothing. Limped it home without a 4th gear, wow the highway became interesting lol, as in 3k RPMs at 55 MPH ahahaha.

So yea, 1835xx miles of use and heavy abuse and the tranny finally quit... gonan try to limp it to/from work this week, then once I get James's tq converter I'm having a buncha you come to my house for the swap. As you may know I wanted to swap the engine at the same time, IF the tranny held out long enough... well, it didn't, so it's just a tranny swap and tranny cooler install.

Anyone know any good tranny swaps, the more northeast the better? I'm already thinking about All star... (just wanna take it in asap and have them flush it and check everything over and all, and dont wanna kill my wallet too much.)

If you have a spare, you might as well put it in cause there is no easy fix to loosing a gear in the 700r4, it is usually an internal problem if your shifter is not out of adjustment..

oops sorry about that confusing-ness

i have a built tranny in my garage waiting for Jame's old TC before it goes in, and that's the one i wanna have all the seals and whatnot checked over just to make sure it's all good before I put it in. I thought you meant that one but reading back MY post wasnt clear, and i was saying i may be able to throw that in my dads car and bring it down to you. Or any other tranny shop that I get good recommendations from reliable people for.

Just got back from a test drive... it is driveable as a 3 speed with the 2-3 shift being manual

ron: nooooo! no sawzall-ing otu a trans unless the car is already totalled/waiting for the junker

Good luck Kasey, let me know if you need to borrow a tranny jack (although alot of people make do with a block of wood and a standard jack).

Wow....I was wondering what happened when you mentioned the 3rd gear 55 mph thing the other night.

Hurry up and get that converter....4L60e won't function as a 3 speed too long before it eats itself alive
