A.I.R System in 3rd Gen

In my 91 GTA it has the A.I.R. system that runs lines from the manifolds to the cats to heat them up. Has anyone ever deleted this setup? Is it really needed? Without it will it blow my emissions away and fail me at inspection time?

Thanks

It will only fail you at inspection time if they bother to lift the hood. The AIR system only pumps air into the cat for the first 45ish seconds that you start the car, to help the cat heat up faster. As long as the cat is warm when you pull into the inspection station, emmisions won't change.

Yeah what they said. And not having the AIR system won't adversly affect the performance of the vehicle either. When I got my 88TA, a previous owner cut the pipe when they replaced the cat. Car ran fine (at the time). Most of the people I talked to on this board recommended crimping off the AIR pipe wherever it is cut. I elected to run an extension and keep it working... just because.

Thanks for the replys guys. I am just trying to make things a little simpler in the car. My friend Dave has the 1LE AC delete box with pully so I will drop that in soon and maybe after I get the car inspected I will get rid of the A.I.R. system.

The car comes equipped with dual cats, If I go with the SLP header setup, can I go with just 1 cat?
