Got the trans and clutch out

of the SS396 last night. It turned out to be more of a pain that I thought thanks to the crossmember fighting me all the way and the bellhousing bolts being difficult to really get to. But the old stuff is out and the flywheel and pressure plate sure are nice and shiny! There's also a spot on the clutch disc where the metal tab that holds the springs in was welded and ground down. So I think the clutch disc wasn't lining up right. But I think I need to get some sort of transmission jack or adapter to sit it on the floor jack level. Nothing like bench pressing a transmission full of fluid while laying on the garage floor! I need to get the flywheel turned before putting the new clutch in. And I have to say that some things would be a little easier if I had an extra hand or 2.

Jeff I have an adapter for the floor jack made for transmissions. It's a little bent up (don't ask how) but if you want to borrow it you can. Not sure I'll be down that way or not anytime soon so you may have to come pick it up. There's a slight chance I'll be there saturday...if I am I'll call you.
