yeah a 305 is a conventional Small Block with the distributor in the rear of the motor compared to the LT1 style Opti up front, I DONT believe it will work. However I could be very wrong.

It'll fit in the block. LT1 cams are roller cams, and they don't usually have the lobe on the front for a mechanical fuel pump if you have one.

That being said....that's a lot of cam for a 305. If you want to use that you better have good heads & intake on it.

you sure .. i could of almost remembered having that lobe on all the ones. (never really looked "for them") but i thought they had them

aside that, justins right. I don't even think the stock heads would handle that much lift. i could be wrong

Wouldn't tear the block apart, but a TPI intake would be horrible for a cam like that. Good heads and a carb-style intake would be a must....

all you need to make an lt1 based cam fit an earlier 305/350 is to grind down the dowel pin on the end a bit. As far as lift goes, changing springs would be recomennded at that lift, Also like justin said, tpi wont like that cam too much, its made for a different power range where the tpi will choke. A converted LT1 intake alone would be an improvement.

If you wanna do a cam only setup, then I would recommend a stock LT1 cam over that one that you listed....

Stock LT1 cam isn't nearly as aggressive as the one you posted specs for, but it will still be a noticeable increase over stock. Fresh valvesprings would still be a good idea, but it will work with your stock heads and intake much better.

I've put a few LT4 hotcam's in GEN 1 cars, only thing you have to do is tap the dowel on the front of the cam (where the opti goes) in so it doesn't hit the timing cover. In fact the LT4 cam is optional for Chevy's ZZ4 smallblock. If you have a post 86 1 piece rear main roller block you should be fine. The LT4 cam also has the mechanical fuel pump lobe but I don't think the stockers do.
-Nick

FWIW

Technical Notes: The LT4 camshaft P/N 24502586 was designed to be used in a number of different engines. Therefore, the following change may need to be made to allow for correct assembly of the engine: For LT1 and L98 engines 1995 and before, the dowel pin in the end of the camshaft must be pushed in so extension from end of cam is .30+/-.01", the same as the production part. For 1996 LT1 and LT4 engines, the dowel pin is in the correct position, extending .620" from the end of the camshaft. This camshaft has a fuel pump lobe.

i know it is a different cam but the tech advice should be the same.
