Hey grandmastercow

You are over your limit on PMs

Well since you have an auto I would stick with a 3.73 upgrade. You have to think ahead though. If your going forced induction you might think about sticking with the 3.42s to save on traction issues later. It all depends on what plans you have. I'm running 3.73s. Only 6 speed cars upgrade to 4.10s. Well unless you are going all out and have the car dedicated to the track only.

i'm not sure what your plans are for the car, sounds like that would be a real nice setup. J/c if you were using the car as a serious strip/street stormer using slicks on the track did you consider a 9" setup from moser or whoever? Only asking because of the ease the 9" provides with just swapping the center sections, like maybe use a 3.42 posi center section for the street and a 4.10 (or higher?) spool center section for the track and just swap them in/out whenever you saw fit?
J/w because i'm currently debating the 12-bolt vs. 9" for my camaro and was interested in your opinion.

Brandon and Rob are both on 12 bolt rears if i remember correctly, brandon is in the 10s with his M6 and rob is at low 11s with his A4 with a transbrake- and they both run slicks. -- a good example that 12 bolts can hold up

Im going with a 12 bolt rear myself, and i break EVERYTHING. I have faith in the 12 bolt

I don't doubt the 12 bolt, in fact I'm using a 12 bolt (4.88s w/spool) in my drag buildup (hoping to run 10s!). I'm using a fab 9 in my street build for the simple reason that I want to run it at the track now and then, but I also want to do some cruise/power tour or something like that as well. I have already built the drag center section using 4.30s w/ spool and haven't got the $$ for the street center section yet haha. The only reason I was suggesting a 9" setup was because I liked the ease of simply swapping center sections as opposed to rebuilding the 12 bolt. I didn't mean to come off sounding like I thought one was stronger or 'better' than the other, just curious to see if it was considered. That's why I asked if he was moving the car to a dedicated track car or a street/strip machine. As long as he's getting rid of the 7.5 that it came with, I'd say that is a move in the right direction haha

ps i was real confused when i first read the thread being as how my name is Brandon too and I don't yet know everyones name being so new. haha

Yep, we are both on 12 bolts. I haven't used my trans brake yet though. Soon

I might have to try that. I want to hit 120 like it's going out of style.

I believe he is still using 4.10s and hes got the MN12 trans so it sounds kinda like he has 4.30s (due to the closer gearing of the MN12)

is the MN12 the C5 Z06 variant of the T-56? While the f-cars and reg. C5 have the MN6 gear ratios?
On the topic of the T-56 and it's different variants, what does the C6 have? The C6 Z06? and how about plans for the next camaro? Figured you guys would know so I didn't have to look it up.

So then the swap that Brandon (still weird saying my own name haha) did was just a straight swap, right? I'm assuming a clutch upgrade is a given. Is there any advantage to using the MN12 other than the gearing? Any strength increases? And on the topic of trans swaps, anyone know of any manual trans options for the 4th gen f-cars with external linkage? (or would that require some modification i.e. cutting the floorpan to make it fit?)

IIRC, MN12 = GTO trans.

yeah it was a straight swap, only thing i had to change over was the cup that the shifter goes into. there is a slight difference between the gto and fbody one.

yeha i still have 4.10s in the rear.

the gearing in the MN12 is almost the same as the c5 z06 w the exception of 5th and 6th.

now im shifting into 4th gear before the 1/8 an runing it all the way till the end. i love it !!!
