T56 full conversion kit
I have a 1996 Z28 and it's an automatic. I wanted to convert to a T56 trans and I looked on the internet and they don't really have anything besides separate part orders. I wanted to get the full kit because everything would be new and I'm not very knowledgeable on car transmissions so I would mess something up. Is there any place that anyone knows of where I can get a full T56 kit for converting?

look on ls1lt1.com or ls1tech.com for people wanting to go from M6 -> A4, maybe you can be llucky and find someone that's willing to trade setups.

only thing is that I would have a REALLY hard time getting it if it weren't in South Jersey because I'm only 17 and my parents won't let me drive out of South Jersey at the moment. I was hoping there was a place to just order an entire T56 kit so I could have a shop swap out the one I have and then I could sell the one I have to make back some of the money I spent. I also wanted to find a new one because my car only has about 60k miles on it which most 96s have WAY more.

You could go there and just not tell your parents where you were.....(not that I would advocate such a thing).
Or you could see if there is a member with a pickup that will get it for you and deliver it for some beer money (would be far cheaper than having it shipped).

you live in/near Galloway Twp. right. I've been to contempory corvette before, and have a pickup truck, with a passenger seat, am able to drive out of state, free on weekends with advanced notice, and accept cash, cashiers checks, or money orders ....
all kidding aside, they would be your best bet. I doubt anyone local is parting out a LT1 T56 car really. Me and my friend got one when we bought a wrecked 95 TA, and stripped the car down and junked it.

I own a spare LT1 T-56 that I won't be using. I never ran it but I was told it was out of a wrecked '96 SS. If you are interested and when you get your plan together let me know.

$750 for the trans. You will need to supply the shifter, bellhousing, clutch, flywheel/pressure plate, and all of the conversion parts.

That I don't know.
You can probably score a bunch of the parts from guys on here. A stock shifter might be $10-30, a bellhousing $50-75.
One guy in the classifieds is parting out a six speed car, check with him. Maybe you can get a package deal.

If you score the eclipse, sell it and your Camaro and buy an LS1 six speed.

... a 99?? some prize... lol
anyways, when i got the stuff for my t56 conversion kit, all said and done, it came to about 1300. Ive seen FULL setups/kits complete sell for 1800-2000.
the trans i got came with a pro 5.0 shortthrow, bellhousing, and flywheel for 950.
then i had to get the slave cylinder spacer at the dealer, 40.
clutch kit, 250.
hydraulic slave and steel braded line on ebay, 40.
you'll still have the get the pedals and bracket and clutch master. i didnt need that cause the car i was working on already had a t5 setup

Why don't you sell your LT1 and buy another one with a manual already in it? That would probably be cheaper and safer. Just a suggestion.

Hey that is a good price. It would be a cool project, but I would say don't do it unless you want a manual that bad and love your car too much to part with it. Smoking SS paid $1300, so estimate that it will cost you approximately 25% of the cost of your actual car. If you are keeping the car for a very very long time, then that probably doesn't matter though. Its a bold move.
