Corvette to pace Indy AGAIN!!!!!
The Indy 500 is as American as Chevrolet is as American as apple pie. Huh? Nevermind. In the ninety-one years of the race, Chevrolet has provided the pace car a record eighteen times, with nine of those vehicles being Corvettes. As a matter of fact, 2007 will be the fourth year in a row that a 'Vette paces the event. To celebrate, a series of production replicas-five hundred in all-have been produced and will go on sale this spring.
Each replica, by definition, will be a Corvette convertible wearing atomic orange paint with gold ribbon graphics and an Indy 500 logo on each side. Special badges, a Z06 rear spoiler, and an interior with embroidered seats and disappointingly cheap-looking painted trim round off the distinguishing features. The Indy 500 Edition Corvette convertible will cost $66,995, or $68,245 with an automatic transmission. Some might argue that it will be a collector's item, but we'd argue that we'd rather pony up for a Z06.
