goodbye ford
well, i grabbed a few aluminum bits off the ford for recycling and made the call. tow guy is planning to stop by monday evening to take it.
the brakes require more work than the car is worth, actually it would be more money to fix them the right way than i have spent on the car including the initial purchase. flex lines are all dry rotted, right front caliper appears stuck, pads are done, rears both leak.....she is in rough shape. i am actually wondering how it stopped so well for the 19months i was driving it. lol
i did find the source of the poor idle and surging when i pulled the upper intake off. some little critter had apparently nested between the upper and lower at some point and chewed holes in two of the vacuum lines under there.
i didn't get a chance to pick up another one paycheck wonder last week and it will prolly be next weekend before i have time to go looking again. for now i am bummin rides and walking places.
i really hope this is the last ford i ever have to rely on day to day.

there is a chance of another ford in the not too distant future. i am helping a friend with a bracket car project, he is just getting back into racing after several years away from the sport(family, work, general life BS) and he wants to go about it the same way he started. build a mild, low budget bracket car, and then move up to bigger and better until he can get back to heads up racing like he was in the mid 90's before he did the wife and kids mod that led to the !car mod.

I can't bag on Fords. We've had a 98 Ranger since it was new, and have had zilch, zero, nana, no problems w/ it at all. Meanwhile ol' gooney goo me n' my GMs have gone down for the count many times.

i will say that the ford never left me anywhere, and considering i drove it for 19 months and only paid $600 for it in the first place, i definately got my moneys worth.
only issue i had with it was the water pump went, a whole $39.95 later she was back on the road.

I usta have that kinda luck w/ cheep AMCs back in the 90s. I had a few Matadors, Gremlins, and Hornets, and other then a cheep part here and there I always made out good. The cheep GMs I've been rocking recently have turned into expensive GMs!
