Island Beach State Park fishing

A buddy of mine and I hit up Island beach for about an hour and a half this morning and let me tell you, we must of hit a school of Blue Fish. I couldnt keep bait on my rig for more than two minutes at the most. They were hitting hard but we just couldnt hook any. I got one ~15 inch blue and another one that I lost in the breakers but it all in all was a great morning. The sea robins were hitting like crazy too (I hate those bastards) so of course I reeled a bunch of those in, but we also hit a few fluke. Its almost that time of year to hit the Stripers too!

I've been catching smallmouth and stripers here on the Delaware River for the past 2-3 weeks. I got 9 fish in about an hour on Tuesday night.

yeah we hooked a ~6ft wide ray down in the Outer Banks this year, it was jumping out of the water it was some real National Geographic photos if they could have been caught, but it ended up snapping the line before we could tire it out enough to land it. That same day they caught a 175 lb black tip shark about a quarter mile down the beach. We had something grab our line and snap it right away, we have a feeling what it could have been :yikes:

bah, bait fish. i worked the seaside park 7-11 (back when it was still american owned, with a white franchisee), and every morning i'd get the rush of guys heading out for the stripers, blues, and i'd get the full poop on whatever was running and what was in season, etc. i've since lost all of that knowledge, however, since i am not a fisher.

many years ago, i went fishing with a guy that was closer to me than any brother could have been. long story short, we got caught in the rain. since then, "fishing is for faggots" is my motto. i had never much liked fishing and he talked me into going - it turned out to be one of the worst experiences of my life. we caught nothing and had to walk home in the rain about 5 miles, so we were literally soaked through to the skin.
