I bet that is related to crash rating, not just cost cutting. Settlemire keeps saying this car has to have a 5-star govt crash rating. Rollover standards have been increased.

this is the first time i've seen 2010... i thought it was going to be introduced next year as a 2009 model year...? yeah, the b-pillar sucks, especially since the mustang doesn't have one. the only upside is that the challenger will be getting them, too.

Adding B pillars to get a five star crash test rating is pretty silly. The people looking to buy a Camaro aren't looking for what happens if it rolls over, they want a car that looks fast and moves fast. Crash test ratings are for soccer moms and mini vans.

Bumblebee's Camaro has B-Pilars... They will be blacked out. Isn't a really big deal.
Keeps the weight down as well

Bumblebee is a 2nd gen the 5th gen is supposed to resemble a 1st gen, its kinda tough to resemble a 1st gen with B-pillars

Yeah, but resemble <> identical. Lack of b pillars is not what defines a 1st gen.

who cares? if it cuts costs and weight and doesn't look hideously ugly, it doesn't bother me.

They are going to have the window portion basically be all metal? So this basically means the 5th gen is going to have a HUGE blindspot on the right side?

First off, the BPillar does suck, but it wont be noticable like it is on the Mustang. It wont be body colored, it will be blacked out.
Like this
Not like this
Ok, now for the reason.
GM and the Camaro team is working HARD to reduce the weight of the vehicle. Like I has said MONTHS ago, they are working to cut every ounce of weight they can to get this car under target. If they were to have a pillarless coupe, they would have had to add hundreds of pounds of structural enhancements to keep the chassis stiff, keep side crash standards up, and not to mention meet FUTURE crash standards which are going to increase.
For those who forgot, one of the 400 reasons the 4th gen was killed was because that the A-pillar, (the first one) was angled so sharp that it was too close to the driver's head, and that IF the Fbody was going to continue after 2002(if GM didnt kill it) it would have had to be on a totaly new chassis.
Adding the B-pillar adds tons of strength to the car and stiffens the chassis up to make sure we have a great platform to build our dream car off of.
Only 2 cars have a pillarless design, one is the CLK which is going to be moved onto the new C-Class's chassis soon, and the Bentley Conti GT, which costs 1/4 mill and comes in at a Suburban-esque 4500lbs, if not more.

its gay and ugly.....
if they want to cut weight, they should look into some of us weight freaks for ideas. its still gonna be a pig like the stang and gto. i would have rather them let the camaro name die w/ dignity.

Their target weight for the 5th gen is still under 3600 lbs, IIRC. That's less than many optioned 4th gen birds weigh......
