Transmission to use?

I currently have an '83 camaro with a manual 700r4 305 4 bbl carb'd. I'm in the process of getting everything together to drop in a 350. Should i stay with the trans i got? Go to something else? I would most likely rebuild the trans i already have if i used it because its old even though it only has 98,xxxk miles on it.

Any idea and opinions would be great!

unless the planned 350 is some sort of monster you should jsut keep the 700r4 and freshen it. it wouldn't be a bad idea to look around for a used 700r4 from a later car to use for the rebuild since there were some improvements to the valve body over the years(90-92 is 4L60 valve body, thats the best)

Since mine is an '83 would you recommend me getting one from '90-'92?

I think the 87+ 700s were when they changed the spline count, and 90-93 were upgraded valve bodies.

Not 100% sure on the year for the spline count upgrade though.

It sucks that the guy who built the trans for my GTP moved to Long Island (Eric at Dynotech). They used to be in Manville and built very good transmissions. Nobody I can point you to now, unfortunately.
