cam
ok so i have a new 305 for my iroc, I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for a cam. as far as i know the only difference with the motor from stock is high dome pistons and supposedly a stock 350 cam. But i have heard the engine run and it just doenst sound anything but stock. So i figured since the motor is in my nice warm garage easily accessible now is the time for a cam.
im looking for a slightly rough idle and/or low end torque, I know its a 305 and im not going to get much, im not looking for much just something that sounds like a v8.
the car has 3.27 gears, demon 650 carb, t5 and these are the heads: # 14014416
thanks

do you have a hydraulic flat tappet or hydraulic roller block?
if it is flat tappet i would look at a comp cams extreme energy 268 or 274, if it is a roller i would suggest a stock LT1 or LT4 cam.
either way i would suggest throwing on new springs jsut to be safe. the comp cams can be ordered as a complete kit with everything you need to install the cam the right way.
good luck with it.

dome, i dunno. cant be that much if its stock heads with 350 cam. i think the guy i got it from played that part up a little, if anything i think they are just flat tops. they are def aftermarket ones because when i had the oil pan off they looked aluminum, no real way of knowing tho.
I think the comp cams extreme energy 268 looks good. Im most likely going to go with that, i have been looking at it for a while and heard good things about it.

ok, i have narrowed the cam search down to two cams. Comp cams CCA-12-238-2 or the xe 268 cam. I called comp cams and the recommended CCA-12-238-2 as most suitable for my application. It seems like it would be a good cam for the 305, i think the 268 might be a little much. And does anyone know the stock spring rate for the orange springs? i would like to use the stock springs...simply because they are brand new and so is everything on the head and i really dont feel like taking off the heads. Thanks

Don't have to pull the heads for springs. I would probably get a set of springs rated for more lift. It would suck worse to have to change them later on after everything is back together

ah ok, yeah ive been thinking about it, it makes sense just to do it all at once, this way it doesnt void the warranty or anythin on the cam.

How does this cam compare to the one that came stock in the L69 HO engine?
