Well this is a new one...

Well I hopped in my beater to get on home from work and I noticed it seemed to have a slight miss while cruisin in OD. I had a spark plug wire pop off the cap before so I pull it over and take a look. When I put it in park and go to get out I notice that the solenoid lockout for the gear selector keeps kickin in and out sporadically. I go check the wires and they all look fine.

I then noticed the brake lights flashing intermittently as well while cruising. I pulled over and the brake lights were still doing it. I decided to check the bulbs and harness. Turns out the left taillight bulb was shorting something out and replaced it....no problems.

I've never seen a brake light cause these weird issues. Thankfully it's fixed...I hope.

That's Mazda for ya . Never heard of a short causing the miss and stuff though.

weird guess but maybe since the brake lights would come on, it would somehow kick the car out of overdrive for that split second giving me the impression that it was an engine miss. Yadunno

i actually just worked on some....i forget. but yeah they had aftermarket taillights and i guess a bulb was out so they replaced a brake/turn/parking light with an 1157 (single filament) bulb. when you stepped on the brakes, the parking lamps illuminated along with the brake lights. with the lights on, all the brake lights stayed lit including the third. so yeah replaced it with a dual filament and wala. not as crazy as yours but it was weird.
