I put my stock wheels and tires on and went through. My stock tires are 7" wide, my new tires are 12.5" with a slightly deeper offset, so they fit kind of like yours. It was either fender flares or stock wheels/tires for me.

You need some form of flare to cover the tire. They failed one of my 4Runners because of bigger tires so I put the small stockers back on and went through. Borrow a set of wheels/tires from somebody that fit and go through that way.

No

I went through the MVI in deptford and I passed that part but I failed everything else. I think it depends on who you get. The first time I failed the woman could not open my hood so I had some other man who works there show her how to. I think its better to just pay and get it inspected at a garage or buy a sticker. I failed three times for three different things. Explain that!!!!!

yes what this fella said, get some 4th gen wheels/tires. they will tuck in. then, if you want to keep the 3rd gen style on there, take the 4th gen wheels off and put the 3rd gen wheels back on

Go to the store and buy some plastic place mats for a table. Cut them into 4in strips length wise and staple them to your inner fenders to cover the tire. Yank em off once you pass.

All the big truck guys do it but they use garden stripping.

Yup...that was my second choice, but I swapped the wheels/tires to bring the truck under the lift limit before I have to go through the stability tests.

How much is your truck lifted? You only need stability tests if its more than 3" of lift.

enough for a dumbass kid to slide a motorcycle under his truck and rip out the whole steering assembly damn kids.

for the flares, there is a lot of people using the poly garden edges for flares and crappy chin spoilers too. its pretty tough stuff too....never thought of fake flares to pass...good thinking

He's got a 3" lift and 35s.

Here's a very accurate page showing NJ Lift Laws: http://home.comcast.net/~kayaker121/NJLiftLaws.html

3" of suspension and 3.5 from the tires over stock. All I had to do was be under a certain amount from the ground to the bottom of the door. I was *JUST* over with my 35s and way under with just the lift and stock tires. So stab. tests differ from vehicle to vehicle.

From the link I posted above:

Quote:
There are 3 classes a non-commercial truck can fall under as listed below. Each class has an associated maximum allowable amount of total lift for that class.

a) Maximum lift up to GVWR 4500 lbs is 7" above OE vehicle height.
b) Maximum lift between GVWR 4501 - 7500 lbs is. 9" above OE height.
c) Maximum lift between GVWR 7501 - 10,000 lbs is 11" above OE height.
The height is measured from the ground to the door sill. They have a pre-determined stock height stored for each year/make/model (and sometimes trim).

Yeah I heard they have changed just recently. I heard its now more than 1" than stock.

I still know that max legal tire size is 38's on a non commercial truck but I've seen guys get away with 44's. hell I know a kid that drives an hour down the park way towering over 44's to come to where we wheel.

Dude just put your stock equipment back on. Make sure you have you Cat and no exhaust leaks, and no tints. All your lights work, and you dont have a check engine light on. And you will pass. Stop the nonsense already and get your inspection done. Just grab a book from MVC and it will tell you whats legal and whats now.

well i bought the car all 'beefed' up like that. im waiting for a cat from jegs should be in by the end of next week.

the thing thats bothering me most is the kid who build the engine said the cam is too large and wont ever pass emissions...but other than that im fixing things day by day until the cat comes in then its going to inspection

nonsense. i went through inspection (twice!) no questions asked with my 3rd gen wheels on my 4th gen rear. However, my car didnt sit all jacked up like that. Unless an f-body nit pick looks at it a 4th gen rear in a thirdgen with third gen wheels, most assume the car came stock with a wider backend.

Then you got lucky....the law doesn't just apply to lifted trucks.
