Car backfiring and stuttering after header install.

Alright, so I finally get my headers in, start it over and let it run. it idles, but like to backfire, andyou can smell an excess of gas. Now I changed the spark plugs, checked over the wires and made surethey went back in the same place. I did remover the EGR valve and system, and blocked them off. i had the DTC code taken out of my computer. My question is, would taking out the EGR make the car throw in an excess amount of fuel, or do you think an O2 sensor went bad. my brains kinda racked on this one, so someone with electronic insight help me out here.

did you ensure you gapped the plugs properly? i'd start pulling wires off to see which cylinder is misfiring or if its random or all. it does it cold or hot? oh and if your transmission mount is bad, or breaks because you were romping like me, your header will hit the steering shaft that way too.

Def go over the wires again, make sure they aren't burnt or arcing. Pull the plugs see if you messed up the gap, and make sure the headers are on tight.

seems to be the norm to do DIY extensions then have a headache soon after...

Are the headers coated?
If so, there is always a chance the coating came off some and dusted the sensors...ie, they could be bad now...

I didnt extend the sensors, there's so much extension from the sensors with stock manifolds, that when I installed my headers, they fit just right. They are O.E> O2 sensors, and may be the originals! I coatedt he headers, but externally, I'd like to know how to internally, I hear about this, but I only rattle canned them with the VHT stuff, and then wrappedthem in headers wrap and siliconed them afterwards.

Oh and this is on a 1996 Camaro 3.8 V6.

I fixed the problem om gonna try to not make this complicatred but I put MSD wires on, and i used those sleeves to say which plug it goes to. well I guess the last time I putthem on, I was goign by the coil pack numbers, but I forgot I swtched those around too!! so when I put the MSD's on I was supposed to out the coils back in their place, but I got lazy. so now Im going by the wire sleeves when I was under my car, and were all wrong excet the middle two wires. so now she runs great, and if i can get my video thingy to work right, ill post a small vid f the exhaust, and the changes in the exhaust note as I went along.

I guess you could say that lol. I put new wires on, and the car wouldnt even start, so I knew there was somethin wrong, so I had to go to the book shelf, pick outt he repair manual, blow the dust off of it, and double check where the wires went.
