How do I get random drivers to stop playing their music so loud?
I am from Bound Brook and unfortunately I live about a block away from Cottington Park where the basketball courts are. Anyway, I live on a busy corner and there are way too many idiots blasting their annoying music when by my house. It invades my family's personal space when I have to hear crappy loud rap music as I am trying to work on something important or if we have company over. Anyone have any ideas on what to do about this?
Would the police do anything if I stopped by the Borough Hall and told them my story? I mean everyone that lives around is suffering from this crap. I realize its summer and all, but thats no reason to blast you music so loud that I can hear it as if I was standing right next to the car.
I am not a legal person, but doesn't this crap violate some law or something? The BB cops are rarely ever patrolling around either. Of course I am not going to yell at them to turn it down because I don't feel like getting into a fight with whoever plays their music loud.
I mean if cops could be called by neighbors of people who are having loud parties at their houses, I don't see why the cops can't do anything about this. I am open to advice.
These stupid idiots are going to go deaf by the time they reach 40. Then they are going to turn their music up even more. I mean its fine to listen to music loud when on a highway or back road, but that isn't cool when you are driving through a dense neighborhood.

it has to violate some law, noise pollution or something. or does bound brook have noise ordinances? get a pen and paper and write down the time of day when you most hear these people...then call your local police department, tell them what you told us and the times you hear them. they will do something like start patrolling that area. and if you REALLY hate it get alot of people in your town together and go to the town hall to complain and they will make a town ordinance.
i love loud music but i hate people who dont turn it down and are considerate to other people...hope this helps.

I'm gonna say they probably don't care if it's between say 8 am and 8 pm. Yeah there are noise ordinances in most towns, but cops rarely enforce them. I've had to call the cops on my neighbors twice already for playing music and being loud well past a respectable hour.
I mean if people are just driving by and you hear it for like 5 seconds I doubt the cops are going to increase patrols for that, and even if they do how many people are really going to get caught. I know I don't have the loudest system in my car, but I'm programmed to hit the mute button if I see a cop and then when they pass put it back up.
Sucks but I don't think there is much you can do short of being the old fuddy duddy that sets up a community watch and starts yelling at people who do it and taking down license plates and filing complaints.

Thanks for the responses. Taking down license plates seems smart. I just hope the people driving the cars by my house don't realize what I am doing and it comes back to bite me. I mean this crap has got to stop.
And the Bound Brook police are pretty much never patrolling around.

no one said to get their license plates, just the time of day you find that it's most prevalent. This way you have more information than just "people are playing loud music"

Its funny you mention ghetto. It really isn't yet. I emphasize the yet part. We are just getting the wrong type of people that come into town from the bordering towns of S. Bound Brook, Somerville, and Middlesex. And contrary to common belief, Bound Brook is actually still predominately white as opposed to Latin, which also shocked me. Not to say that whites don't constitute a town not being a ghetto, but I think most people see BB as a poor Latin town. Bound Brook is a haven for people because it has a down town area and an uptown area, and the basketball courts at the park are used for many serious refereed games. Bound Brook also still doesn't get any reports of murder or basic crime. Vandalism to property is still about the only thing we get. Otherwise everyone minds their own business. You could still walk the sidewalks at night and don't have to worry about getting mugged. In the summer, people even push their baby carriages at night and many go for walks. I'd stay clear of the downtown area myself.
Bound Brook is one of the oldest towns in Somerset county/NJ. Yet houses in Bound Brook still go for upwards of $400K. Middlesex is actually the undesired town for people to live in according to newspaper sources. I personally think Middlesex is a nicer town, but go figure.
I even hear that distant places like Morristown and Hillsborough are becoming ghetto-like places too. So it may happen to your town someday. Don't think your safe just because you are located in the middle of nowhere or you have a lot of privacy.

Well I tell you, all of these idiots are in for a rude awakening when they age. They really are going to lose a lot of their hearing by the time they reach 40, assuming they aren't that old already. I took a gerontology class and my professor couldn't say enouhg about how much loud music in cars affects long term hearing loss in the long run.
Fortunately this only happens around summer time. Once winter and fall come around, peopel drive with their windows closed and are probably less inclined to listen to their music loud. At least thats how its been in the past around Bound Brook.
Speaking of which, do any of you even know of Bound Brook or have ever been through it?
When I tell NJ people I am from Bound Brook, they usually aren't familiar with it unless they live in bordering towns.

I never said it wasn't okay to blast music elsewhere, but just don't do it in a heavily populated area of housing. I don't need to hear some one's music. But you can disagree with me now about the loud music making you go deaf, but just don't say I didn't warn you. If you keep it up, you might as well not wear ear plugs when you go to see concerts.

Also, if your music is below the decibal noise range, then doesn't that mean you apparently aren't blasting your music? I don't know personally anything about noise violations, but what I do know is that some towns take it more seriosuly than others, so I'd watch where you drive through while disturbing the peace. I know Middlesex cracks down on loud music in cars.

There is nothing you can do to prevent these people from blasting their audio systems in your neighborhood. I blast my music all the time with my mediocre Sony Xplod System, but I at least have some respect to lower it when around peaceful heavily populated housing areas.

Ah struck a nerve.. I used to live in chester, pa for almost 30 years. I just moved out almost 3 weeks ago to more up scale place, for many reasons. One which you are having the problem with now. I have a decent plasma with a 1000 some watt 7.1 surroud and I couldn't even watch a movie with how loud peoples car stereo's are. I couldnt wait to get out of that **** hole.
Hence why I said, thats why I moved out of the getto..

Well it sort of struck a nerve. I mean I don't consider Bound Brook a bad town nor a ghetto. At least not yet. I wouldn't consider moving because my family has a lot of history in the house I live in. Its been through 5 generations of my family (me being the 5th) and my parents have a strong attachment to it. It is where they grew up and where I grew up. It is also conveniently located near major highways and areas of employment and places to go and things to do. It's just that the town has gotten progressively worse over the years and the dumb mayor and councilmen don't lift a finger to do anything to revamp the town and crack down on people upkeeping their house. And the police are never around from what I can see, yet Bound Brook is one of the best paying towns for a police officer to work in.
I mean imagine growing up in a town where there used to be town parties at the local park, the swimming pool was well kept and swimming lessons were given, you played baseball and sports with every kid in town, and everyone knew each other, and their parents knew each other, and so on.
Now there is a shoprite where I used to play baseball, a baseball diamond where I used to play soccer, everyone that my parents and I grew up with moved away, old timers are dying, illegals are moving in, the downtown is an eye soar, BB High School has one of the worst reps for producing bad students, kids spray painting things, and LISTENING TO LOUD MUSIC.
I mean I am not living in the past, but it doesn't mean I shouldn't stick up and fight for some things that have changed that directly affect my family and I. A sprinkler system in a good idea but I live on a corner where there all there is is sidewalk between my driveway and the side road, so some one would probably screw with it.
