Question New logo for my car club...

Came up with a decent idea today I decided to try out on paper. I'm starting up a Jersey based car group and wanted to figure out a logo for us. Let me start out with the explanation...

The name: Disciples of Speed, I wanted something somewhat generic and non-brand specific since we've got a lot of different makes/models in the group. 90% domestic V8 but there are a few stragglers I didn't want to alienate. I also wanted a name that conveyed the fact that cars and the quest for speed are like a religion to me (and the group). Hence the name.

The logo: Since we're jersey based, when I was thinking of an acronym for the name I thought NJDOS, which sounds dumb but it reminded me of NJDOC (department of corrections). For some reason I ran with that and decided to mimic the DOC badge logo when making ours. It would have "Disciples of Speed" at the top, and "NJ" at the bottom. But what for the middle??

I was trying to think of something again somewhat generic but relating to cars, an emblem maybe? I dunno. So I stumbled on a skull with rods/pistons as crossbones. Good idea! But I didn't want a normal skull, I wanted something that would again put an emphasis on cars, so...

I went with the new Corvette logo, "Jake skull". It started as a C6R logo and now GM is using it on the intake of the new ZR1. Now, there are no vettes in the group as of yet, but I figured this logo would still be appropriate for what I was trying to achieve, and it'd pay homage to one of the fastest american cars ever built!

What do you guys think? The 1st is the really **** rough draft, scribbled the name on top just as an idea and did the skull half assed. The NJ lettering is great, have to find the right font for the top and then I changed the Pistong to the top, looks better than the original.

Jake Skull

The name might get cluttered in the shield as there might not be enough room.

Considering you "wanted something somewhat generic and non-brand specific", I would lose Jake completely. I immediately think Corvette Racing when looking at both your ideas.

Yea I'm debating where to go with the Jake skull logo. I may change the eyes. Like I said though, I just wanted a skull that was blatently car related and Jake was the baddest ass one! If anyone has an idea for the skull let me know.

I also have to re-size and move the skull & crossbones to make it look less crowded. That 1st pic was a rough sketch, it's crap. When I fix that it should look perfect, hopefully.

After all that I have to figure out colors...I'm thinking silver for the border/rods, black background and possibly yellow letters, to make them pop and to look similar to the DOC badge.
