v8 running on 6
As most of you know my car dynoed on 6 cylinders.
The majority say the plugs and wires are shot and thats the cause of my problems.
Well today the guys up at Ask Franks First (local speed shop awsome place) gave me some new 8.5mm wires, autolite 25 plugs, wire seperators, and had a talk with a shop about flaring my yipe to fit correctly with my headers so they seal properly. Im going to be working off the price of the parts by helping around the shop and the ypipe was a freebie.
So anywho everything will be put back together tom with new valve cover gaskets and header gaskets so im sure their wont be any leaking from anything, but my question is what else could cause two cyls to not fire.
When you pull the boot off the plug on cyl 2 & 3 it has no effect on the motor at all. Im sure they have compression but ill test that again tom too just to be absolutely sure.
Any thing guys? Could it be something wronge with the distributor it self?

I race with Frank, he is a great guy and definitely knows his stuff. I'm not sure I would have recommended you dynoing it after hearing how it ran, but I don't like jumping in peoples business. Good luck straightening it out.

lol its probably something basic, my friend. gap your plugs correctly. make sure your piston is up top on cyl one, look at your rotor, see where it points and go from there.
its been a lil while, but i believe firing order for sbc is 18436572 clockwise rotation

Closed Completely
Im going to pop off the heads tom night and put some fresh valves in them. While im at it im going to take a look at that one cyl with the messed up plug and see if maybe its the valves or a foreign object got in their or something weird before I go digging into my bottom end.

Did you replace the plugs and wires and run it to see what would happen yet?
I would definitely do that before you start yanking the heads off of the motor.

Ehh screw it im pulling my motor this weekend and john over at ask franks first is going to go through the whole thing and make it run perfect. New valves if needed w.e it takes hes going to take care of it all.
After this motor is running on all 8a 383 sbc will be being built to replace my current motor.

No offense man, but why are you gonna pull this motor out and pay to have it gone through completely just to turn around a build a 383.
I think you're nuts if you don't stick the new (properly gapped) plugs and wires on the car and see where you stand.

Im not paying to have the motor go through completely. Its more of a trade off. Im working for a local speed shop helping them clear house cuz their closing shop and have to be out by jan 1 and they have a TON of crap their.
In exchange for helping one of the guys who runs it hes going through my motor with me helping me pull it and all.
Along with the new plugs wires and all the other good little crap im getting for free.
He even made the call to his buddy at an exhaust shop to fab my ypipe up and their not charging me anything for that either.
The other guy who runs the place needs his crap moved out too and hes more willing to haggle a deal on parts ie: a 383 right out of his suppliers catalog for me, then to pay me hourly which is also an option.
So ill have my motor running perfect AND an option for a forged 383 at a discounted rate or the option for cash so we shall see.
See im not nuts at all i just want a 383 in my car and a 357 as a back up.
