This should be a mandatory read:

http://editorial.autos.msn.com/artic...part=passenger

there are a few things left out like:

Passing in the PASSING LANE, not PACING.

Last night i was stuck behind TWO cars PACING each other for 4 MILES! literally, i flashed the driver in the left lane atleast 5 times and they didnt move for ****. there was no one around for miles, even behind us. i was ****ing PISSED. Damn i ****ing hate stupid people like this, they are the reason why there are aggressive drivers on the road. AND the reason why people get bad gas mileage because they both took off super slow from every light we stopped at.

I wish i could stop these people and tell them what they are doing wrong, and remind them that the far left lane is for passing slower cars, not for cruising in.

/RANT

bad drivers

Actually that article is incorrect when it says that accelerating quickly saves fuel. On nearly any modern car, laying a heavy foot on the gas will cause the computer to put the AFR under stoich.

i would be pissed too, i just drift around the lane though, i never flash my lights. if they see both your headlights in their side mirror, they move.

i tailgate both cars while simultaneously weave back and forth in between the lanes. im also known for just honking the horn until the other person gets tired of hearing my horn honking.

if its at night time turning your headlights off behind them works well too. or just ride behind them with your highbeams on.

I see everyone of those irritants going and coming from work everyday. I'm just going to get a set of brush guards and "love tap" people who annoy me...

The left lane is for passing, if you're not passing the get **** out of my way.

A few of my biggest pet peeves-1)People that do the speed limit in the left lane. 2) People that go INTO the left lane to pass the person in front of them only to then do the same speed as the car they're trying to pass. 3) People that come flying up the right lane knowing there's an on ramp up ahead which screws up the merging flow.

People weaving around and being numb nuts behind me makes me miss my beater. Can you say BRAKE CHECK!?!?!? Because regardless of what retarded excuse you try to sell to the cop, it will be your fault for not maintaining a safe driving distance.

Yea what was the deal with that? Who actually thinks driving at WOT is more economical than getting up to speed more slowly? If I drove at WOT till I got up to speed every time I could guarantee you my mpg would suffer.

Flooring it to get the car up to speed is actually accurate. If you put out max effort for a short distance, it increases the distance they you spend at max efficiency. This is how the colleges do those max mileage engineering challenges every year.

I suppose the reason for slower driving getting better gas mileage could be that once you are up to speed you cannot maintain it because of other traffic and traffic lights. I'll have to give the WOT theory a try when I live somewhere with exponentially less traffic because around here getting up to speed slower gets me better fuel economy.

Yeah, I never would have believed it if I didn't read an article about some SAE contest that a bunch of colleges did. The contest was based on max distance covered, including starting the car, from a single gallon of fuel.

my point is that pay attention to the task at hand. but like i said in regards to the tailgating, swerving, honking, flashing lights etc. these are all terms used to describe aggressive drivers. and the only reason there are aggressive drivers is because of dumb****s that pace other cars, dont know how to merge (wont let you in because they HAVE to be in front of JUST YOU), etc etc.

and driving slow as **** off a light definitally does not help your fuel mileage, neither does wot all the way to the speed limit, but you are also not holding up everyone else behind you. accelerate swiftly to the speed limit, that is the better choice for fuel economy.

Its a good reason not to CCW in NJ...
I remember coming home from work, driving up 18, and there was this massive Suburban in front of me, doing 61 in a 65. There was no one in the right lane. So I tried to look around this big bastard, but couldnt. So I just pulled into the right lane to get around him, and found a whole LINE of people in the left lane WITH NO ONE IN THE RIGHT!! Everyone was following single file in the left lane. I was looking for a hearse!!! WTF WAS EVERYONE DOING IN THE LEFT LANE doing 5mph below the speed limit? The Suburban was driven by a little blonde lady, cell phone glued to her ear. There had to be about 8-10 cars total, all single file line and following the car in front by the same distance between each car....it was odd. I just blasted down the right lane, past them all, and got off my exit...
I have never seen something like that ever.

i don't know about that. there has to be a point where flooring it/distance spent at max efficiency makes it worth it. but around town driving, definitely false. it really depends on the tables in the computer too. but if college kids did it, its got to be true!

HaHaHa that is soooo true.....ur on my ass, I'm slamming on the brake....I was doing 75 in the fast lane on 195 which is 65 mph. Some douche in a jeep came flying up on me so I slammed my brakes. Wish he woulda hit me......woulda been a nice lawsuit.
