Computer geeks, need your help

Got my computer out of sleep mode this morning and all of a sudden I'm missing a ton of file associations.

My biggest problem is the .exe association is missing.

Been looking around and the solutions I've seen tell me to run an exe (uh duh, how?) or merge a registry edit (opens in notepad?)

I can unzip files, and I've found a roundabout way to open firefox. help?
I've tried system restore and it can't run the .exe (NOT reformating at this time.)

registry merge, you right click it and hit add to registry, you dont try to run it

also.....did you try restarting?

Set *.reg to open with regedit.exe and it works?
opened one of the .reg fix files and so far all is good.

Fixed. Again.

System restored to Friday. Something was doing it on start up.
Spybot was telling me it was happening but denying the changes didn't do much.

Yeah, I managed to get it running so I did a system restore back to friday. All was good and then something else went really FUBAR and now I'm stuck with the same problem.

No idea what caused it or why but I'm stuck unable to run *.exe extensions and none of the registry fixes are working this time around.

I just can't believe I had it fixed once and then something ****ed it up again and going back to this was the better of 2 evils.

Alright, this is just getting weirder. I have one reg file that fixes things long enough for me to run a single exe

Try a repair install before formatting. I didn't look at what Justin posted but I would say from experience that a repair install fixes windows problems about 80 to 90 percent of the time. Just back up your data first

You should be able to order one from Acer then, if you want. You may have to pay shipping & handling though.

They are required by Microsoft (may be wrong but I thought I read something about this) to be able to provide you one if your system did not come with it

Like I said, not all too concerned. If I want it I know where to find it online.
I have the XP CD at my apartment and I may go ahead with that
