For us Infantry guys that need good tunes!
OK I admit it, my first thought when I saw this was…cool!
There are some good apps for shooting sports but users say that the new Knights Armaments M110 iPod Touch mount and accompanying ballistics software is simply wicked.
The gun in the picture is the M110, the 7.62×51mm semi-automatic sniper system, which won the Army’s competition to replace the M24 bolt action sniper system. Knights Armaments has created a mounting system for the iPod Touch that attaches to a side mounted picatinny rail of the sniper. The mount is also protected by a protective case.
Then Runaway technologies built Bullet Flight, an external ballistics calculator for the iPod Touch and iPhone. This is your standard ballistics app: allows users to set firearm and ammunition profiles, then use this profile and enter info such as distance, wind direction, elevation and temperature.
The app is costly though, $11.99, now in the app store.
My second thought when I saw this was that Apple is going to take out the Palm Pre by one way or another!

If I was still In I would be investing in this beast of a system

i guess it would be good for sniper teams. may even almost replace the spotter lol. but ground infantry would probably be way too distracted lol.

Wouldn't the backlight give away your position. Light discipline?

Still the backlight will be point at your face and the NVG's amplify anylight detected or reflected of an object. Not something to have on a foot patrol, in a defensive position, or in a hide. And the Sniper shouldn't be operating it, the observer should. It's great for competition shooting but I doubt it's efficiency in a tactical environment. Plus mounted to the front like that aids in the disruption of the field of view from the shooter. Again, if used, it should be in the hands of the observer not the shooter.

So all this is good for is daytime long range shooting. But then the shooter must get out of position to input the variables so their natural point of aim needs to be reaquired.
What this application would be good for is that if it could be adapted for yearly qualifications that is used in the Marines known distance course instead of using that old data book.
