I hate Asus...
This is the second motherboard that has died on me in 7 months. Never waste your time with them, I can't stand their customer service.
I'm a college student... why would I ~possibly~ want a computer to function correctly.

My current Asus has lasted me about 2.5 years and it still runs sharp. Must be your bad luck

im also an Asus (or Gaysus as I like to call them) hater. There was a point where i went through 4 of their motherboards in 3 years. then i switched to DFI and had other brands that never gave me problems like gaysus did.
Then last year i got a really good deal on an Asus M2N-SLI deluxe and an amd athlon X2 6000+ and two of the four USB slots dont work.

My 2 cents maybe worth one
I built my comp 5 years ago and have the ASUS A7n8x-Deluxe, I have had no issues with the board itself.
The only thing that went wrong with mine was that the Power Supply finally died, D*** power supplies anyways.

I had an asus board burn up on me a few years ago. Was an AMD tho. Never had a problem with their Intel boards. Rite now I'm running a Striker Extreme with Windows 7. Been running good for 2 years

heh.. it's actually very possible. Giving old CRT monitors an invalid refresh or resolution... not turning on fans that should be on.. overclocking video cards.. just a few possibilities

Refresh on a CRT wouldnt cause it to fail unless you left it that way for a LOOOOOONG time. Way too long for it to be a reasonable statement.
Turning fans on and off is almost always a function of the hardware and then they have a minimum speed anyway. Overclocking a video card would be a driver not the OS.

1. I just said it was possible to break the monitor, not probable.
2. Fans can actually be a function of the O.S Depending on whether you hook them up to variable controlled pins or not and whether your BIOS settings have priority over software fan settings. My friend had a laptop running Linux and his fans wouldn't run after he booted into the OS until we installed the correct fan modules.
3. The driver interfaces directly with the OS. Hardware instructions are issued from the OS, not the driver itself. The driver ties into the Kernel and the Kernel controls the hardware.

ok, so it was a little on the late side, just got home from my crappy job so I was not thinking too clearly lol but yes I am running an Aopen motherboard.
I would agree with the statement of ''software can kill hardware." Not only because of the above response also because improper programming of how the software uses the device, like the main CPU could easily be overworked for some small process like the system idle process which does nothing then overheat and go boom.
Linux & Mac > Windows. The End.

I said OS not software. A BIOS uses a version of software. So by all means software can kill any component of hardware

You still fail here they are both dependant on the driver which is written for the OS not by the OS. So if hardware fails because the driver isnt set correctly it is programming error and not the OS's fault.

That's correct. It's not the OS's fault but the problem is still caused by the OS. It can not communicate properly with the device, or is sending poor instructions causing malfunction. The driver is not doing any talking.
