Question Need help choosing LT1 oil pan.

I need help choosing oil pan for my camaro.
I pulled my pan to change gasket.. found some rust on stock pan.
I figure its a good time to upgrade my pan. But the problem is that I never had to deal with it before.
So can someone tell me whats the deal? what is the difference between dry and wet sump? suggest oil pan for my application. Canton or Moroso?

Preferably to use stock oil pump (cuz i got new one)
Which one would fit without modifying anything?

I was thinking of this one:
Chevy Camaro LT-1 Canton Road Race Oil Pan (15-242T)
What kind of pick up I need? (stock pump w/ white spring)

And where I can get one for decent price?
Any of the sponsors sell them?

I'm planing to use camaro for road race.
Its 96 LT1 m6 w/ UMI k-member and MAC shortys and y-pipe w/ cats(same location as stock exhaust)

Thank you in advance.
Alex.

I have the Canton pan on my LT1, but I can't attest to it's performance gain as I just got my motor running. It does appear to be really well made though. The pan metal is of a decent thickness, it doesn't have a cheap look/feel to it. I trust it. With the pan there are no leaks at all. I'm just using it because it came with my motor (I bought the motor complete used and rebuilt it), but if I were going to be road racing I would probably choose that pan. Also, my motor came with a Canton pickup, which appears to be of good construction also. It has a tab on it so it will bolt to the pump, so you won't ever have to worry about it falling out. Theres also a tab welded on for pressing in the pickup. The pan internals also appear to be well thought out and constructed. It looks like it would do a good job at keeping oil around the pickup during hard turns.

Canton makes a good product. And the difference between a "dry sump" oiling system and a "wet sump" oiling system is the dry sump uses an external belt or gear driven pump, and an external oil tank. Your Camaro [and pretty much all other GM vehicles, save certain 'Vettes] uses a wet sump set up, which means the oil is contained inside the oil pan, and an internal pump distributes the oil with in the engine.

I know little about the Moroso, but I'd assume it is much like the Canton. With either the Moroso or Canton "I think" both are deeper then stock, so you need a different pickup tube. I did the Pan, Melin pump and pickup all at one time. So the best I can offer is to call both companies and see if they offer a pick that matches the pan and stock pump. I have the Canton, very nice peice, windage tray and baffles are first rate. Well made and also has a fitting for an oil temp sensor, which is a nice thing to have.

The Canton pan relocates the oil level sensor but I'm 99% sure the Mac shorties will clear it. Some of the step-long tubes have serious clearance issues.

One key area I'd suggest you check on is the clearance where the Y-pipe crossover runs between the front of the pan and the K-member. Clearanace might be tight? I ran into this with a Edelbrock TES and aftermarket oil pan. We had to do some customizing that was a real pain!
