Carb dyno tuning in CNJ

Does anybody have experience with this? I watched a video of a guy who gained like 60hp on the dyno just getting the fuel curve and timing curve perfect. Def seems worth it to me after im done with my 350/vortec build

I've gained about 10 HP (out of 213 RWHP) on my Mustang just by adjusting the timing, tried different springs and base timing with MSD distributor. Basically, it depends on how bad was your setup to start with. Mine was after I've paid other people money to do the dyno tuning and, judging by results, they've mostly screwed up.

The problem is that changing parts with the car on the dyno is expensive, you still pay for the dyno time while you're working on the car. So it's best to come prepared with a plan and either parts that can be adjusted quickly or ready modules that can be swapped quickly. Don't forget to write down, what configuration gave what result, or you'll lose track quickly.

Thanks. I know its going to be expensive. I also forgot to ask, does anyone do this around here? seems hard enough to find a place that will tune GM EFI stuff, let alone a carb

The people I've paid to was Larocca performance in Englishtown (also known as T&J, and now I think just J Auto Service). They've done something but not much good result. Then the place I've rented the dyno time from was IMP Performance in Clifton (the same guys as running the PDA/NASA track events). They've been nice, gave me the membership discount and let me work on the car while they went on lunch without charging for that time, but they don't really know how to operate a dyno, they've just learned a few basic moves. I've been trying to get the data out of them in computer format, and eventually gave up after 6 months or so.

BTW, the dynos are different. The electric dyno at IMP showed ~30HP less than the hydraulic dyno at Larocca. This might be because the IMP guys have set the computer into an averaging mode, where the graph shows at certain RPM the values averaged from the range (-500, +500 RPM), not the true measured values. The resulting graphs are smooth but the data is hard to interpret. That's why I've been hoping to get the files with raw data from them.

In the end I'd say that both these places suck.

I use Bob Ida in morganville just off Rt 9. Bob's an old time drag racer and an excellent tuner.
