Just got out of the hospital...
So I was feeling a little sick since I got home from vacation a couple weeks ago, went to the doctor, he sent me for blood work. Friday the results come in, and the Dr calls me into his office, we go over the results and basically he said I have diabetes. Unsure of Type 1 or Type 2 he sent me to the emergency room for further evaluation and to get my blood sugar lowered in a controlled environment. I just spent the weekend in the emergency room and the ICU to get it lowered to a manageable number. Turns out I have Type 1 diabetes and now I have to give myself insulin shots before every meal and before bedtime pretty much for the rest of my life. This was all caused by a virus I had gotten 3 months ago or more according to the A1C test. So if your feeling sick, fatigued, thirsty, etc I urge you to get checked out.
If theres any members on here with diabetes I can sure use a little direction

Start picking up some books on diets, and read them.
Its gonna be tough, but its doable to eat well and have it not taste that bad.

My dad has diabetes, and just had a quintuple bypass last week. He's on meds now to control his sugar, but doesn't need insulin. You might be surprised, if you can eat right and exercise, you'll be able to control the diabetes much better and may be able to just go on medication rather than insulin forever. That's all my dad has done so far, and his sugar went from 200+ down to the low 100s before his surgery. My wife's an RN, and knows a good amount about diabetes too, so I'll ask her tomorrow. I'll give you a call when I have some info for ya!

wow sorry to hear! I've heard very good things about eating a low GI diet and diabetes. Look into it, its really not hard to follow, just all about switching foods around, not starving yourself

Yup. Try to get a few cookbooks written for diabetes diets, and make sure to try new stuff.
I hated it for a month or so, but you get used to it. And in most cases its more healthy in other aspects too.
