Cool Thinking about ubying a 98 Z roller need some advise (ls1 newb)

So Im looking at a 98Z roller because I have my 74 sold. Here are the details

98 z fresh paint 09 gm orange (corvette) paint is real nice all door jams are done. Grey interior is real nice (cloth seats) no rips scrapes etc. T-top car. All the factory wiring harnesses are still in the car. 9 inch rear locker and 33 spline axles,wilwood disc brakes. All tubular bmr front end with adjustable struts. New bmr adj.torque arm and relocation mount trans cross member.hooker ceramic headers. Brand new in the box greg weld drag wheels 15x3.5 and 15x10 no tires mounted on them. Also to go with the car a 6.0 iron short block (stock) a pair of 317 heads, a 4l80e trans, new slp line lock, and the rest of the little things in the garage.
I think I can get it without the wheels for around $4500...is this a good deal?? Im a newb to LS1's but this sounds like a good start. I will be using the car as a DD. It was orig an M6 car and I want to put the t56 back in! If I dont decide to build the car is it worth it to part I can get the roller for $4000. The paint is nice and hasnt seen the street, the interior is clean, but its cloth. What would the 9" and bmr stuff be worth??

Oh yeah and its either this or a mustang lx 5.0 5-speed. I dont know how much work I want to do the Z needs the motor put back together (via spending some monies), t-56 bellhousing, hydaliycs (sp?), pedals, rear brake lined made, and wheels to clear the BIG brakes on there. I dont know I want an f-bod but I may just end up with a mustang because its gonna be cheaper.

If you're looking for cheap, buying a roller isn't the way to go

^ couldnt be truer.

Just becuase it has wilwoods doesnt mean it big brakes could be a drag package...

i have a ton of ls engine parts & brake master along with booster & t56 pedals if you decide to buy it.
you can have the stuff just to help you stick with the chevy product

i probably have almost eveypart you need to get the engine running & brakes working minus the t56 & rear brake line.

yes..... but the stuff thats on the car like 9" rear wilwoods bmr kmember etc.... is $4000-$4500 to buy.

if he wants he could sell the stuff to someone else for a good buck w/ getting their stock parts as part of the sale, if he wants it stock like. probably get half his $ back and still have all the parts for his car just in stock form though

ah yeah i didnt see that. sounds like a decent deal then. you can come by ls stuff really cheap nowadays.




if you want let me know i know where i can get you a complete pull out for a really good price. came out of my old 98 z28 that was totaled recently

Yeah I was thinkging of doing that, then selling the roller after I de-modded it. Would it be worth is doing that???

I wouldn't do it. Buying a project will be a mess. They usually get sold because the owner doesn't feel like doing the work. I would rather have a nice running mustang with a 5 speed than a non-running LS car. Only case I would buy a roller is a race car and only in certain circumstances. If you buy that LS car I guarantee you'll have to deal with half-assed work. Yes it would be more to build it, but at least you would know what you have.

go with the LX if its a notchback...take some weight out, short belt it, bump the timing, you can run 13.9s with a T5 and a 'stock' 5.0

Don't forget about getting it through inspection if it's going to be a DD. All the stuff that may have been removed could nickle and dime you trying to get it to pass. I just went through this with the 4Runner I bought. Fortunately, there are enough good parts I pulled off to easily cover the cost of getting it back to legal road ready condition. As a project it sounds interesting, but to make it a DD sounds like a challenge that could add up.

Im looking at a hatchback. If I kept it long enough it will get the 4.6 dual cammer from my mark viii

Thinking of buying the whole thing and parting, would sell the roller at a stocker would it be worth it????? I want to de-modd and sell the roller stock.

If so I have seen that car in person it is a nice PROJECT but needs a lot of work plus I had cash and couldn't get him to budge on the price.

I saw it on ls1tech ande went to look at it. He's from Newfield.
Would it be worth it to de-mod and sell as a stock roller (let's see how many times I have to ask this same quesioj to get an answer i think this it #3)??

as a stock roller , probably only get about $1200-$1700 for it.
but..... if you sold the parts of it and got stock parts in exchange w/ the sale of parts. you could get $2500-$3000 back on the parts,
finish putting the car back together as a running stocker & get $4500-$5500 for it.
so thats 4000 out your pocket and $7500-$8500 back in your pocket.
that will buy you a real nice running dd

Yeah true dat hommie . Mod motors are mad expensive to build but it would be a cool swap cost like 1k for cams. I don't know I found a nice 92 hatch in calypso green (my favorite color) that I might pick up.
