For you guys that know or have recently had to do this, would SS card, drivers license, and birth certificate meet the requirement?... i would just use my passport, but its expired

You'd only need your unexpired drivers license and either your birth certificate or SS card. Checking I9 forms if part of my daily job in HR. Sooner or later everyone needs to give an updated form of ID that has an expiration date every time it expires.

Actually, I think you can still use your passport as long as it was not issued more than 15 years ago. That constitutes proof of citizenship for the Department of State so can't imagine why USCIS would have a problem with it.

Just to notify you though, a new law passed either last year or 2 years ago that says all forms of ID with expiration dates on them must be updated or they can't be used. Any HR rep worth his/her salt knows to only accept unexpired forms of ID. Otherwise, it can come back and bite the HR rep for overlooking it in a random audit. But then again, a lot of HR reps are lazy or don't care, so it may work where you are hired.
