Talking Ohhhh the things they say...

So I work at an autoparts store and we do light duty mechanic's work.

I wen out to a guys car today, I forget what exactly it was, a domestic something and pulled his codes, got one for EVAP leak and one possible cause listed is a loose/faulty fuel cap. So I recommend that he picks one up since his car threw that code and he looks at me like I'M the moron and i kid you not he goes, "your machine is wrong, hows it gonna tell me I have a faulty gas cap? I lost that thing, look" and he opens the door to his gas tank...

NOT TO ALL: Using plastic wrap and a rubber band =/= to using a gas cap and LACK of a gas cap doesn't make my code reader a liar.

I love oklahoma.

Anyone else have stories?

working at a tire shop customer thought that oil was the only thing that went in a car so to fix his overheating problem he added oil to the radiator.

That was a fun time flushing that out using dawn soap which brings the oil to the top of the coolant

I just love it when people get a "service engine soon" light on = add a quart of oil.

o ok i got some
f150 2005 with no compression on 5 cylinders so he want to change the fuel pump then wanted to change the cam and crank sensors, he also put 5 quarts of motor oil in the transmission tube insisted of in the cap marked "MOTOR ONLY" .

then a 2004 jeep the guy cursed me up and down saying that all he needed was a wheel alignment .... i even showed him the broken ball joint, then he tells me that Google said that he just need an alignment.

had a 1994 honda civic, with the exhaust hanging off the car .... he tells us that he wants the drive-shaft fixed because it broke in the back and is dragging i told him thats impossible he has 2 axles and its a FWD. he had 1994 honda civic, he told us we were trying to cheat him... so we lifted his car and my car to show him the different between a FWD and RWD and then his exhaust....... and he still didn't believe us now he said this is a limited edition 4x4 civic hahah

I like when a customer brings their car to one shop they tell them what is wrong with it. They bring it to the dealer knowing that they have no warranty and ask us to look at it. We tell them what is wrong with it and they respond with "oh, I don't have any money. I don't want it fixed."

This, then they get angry when you charge them a diagnosis fee.

Or when a customer comes in, and his frist question is, "does anyone here speak spanish?"

No you idiot, english is the language here, not spanish. *
And then when you struggle to help them out, they get angry at you for taking to long to get them the part. Ugh.

*no I am not racist/prejudiced, just annoyed.

Ha when I worked at advance our crew was really bad. We used to make customers feel like idiots when they would talk out of their ass. Our favorite line when they would get done trying to explain what they thought was wrong with their car and what they needed was just "Yeah no, your wrong" then off no positive input

Also used to love when ******** that thought they were being funny would call and ask for a radiator for a 66 Beetle. Nope I'm not stupid your dumb cause Volkswagen beetles are air cooled so **** off dick.

Kinda sounds like the joke's on you... if you know they "thought they were being funny" then why get so angry and call them dumb for the part not existing? They obviously knew already

Last weekend we had a guy come in lookign for fuses. He said it's an "E" fuse. We asked if it was a new vehicle or something, which it wasent. We told him you mean 3amp then, he goes no, its an E fuse. I see 5 and 10 amp fuses, but no 3's, just E's.......

(If you havent figured it out, he was looking at the fuse upside down)

Had that happen to me with a guy at a Honda dealer who laughed at me when I told him my Saturn had the same engine as the Pilot. He shut up real fast when his manager looks at him and goes "he's right, you didn't know that?!"

Part didn't fit anyway, so joke was actually on me.

Pff I never helped any body unless I knew them. I used to get a really good laugh from people that thought they knew what was wrong and came back 3 hours later looking to return it cause it didnt fix it.

To save myself the hassle anymore I let people know ahead of time before they buy an electric item or tool,if it's wrong, it can't be returned, thats customer error, not ours. A couple just walk right out, others complain, and my usual customers don't need to be notified cause they know what the **** they're working on.

After the Battery ordeal with Joey New Yorker, I let people know.

I told a guy yesterday when he was coming to pick up his battery to bring his receipt ( I have a very bad memory, plus with the amount of traffic through here everyday, and each scummy, greasy, dirty North Jerseian/New Yorker who comes here to work on their boat/summer vaca, they all look alike, so Im not goign to remember your face.
Of course he came in without it, and I let him knwo without the reciept, if there is any problem with the battery, without the reciept, there is nothign we can do. He got all mad, but it's out of my hands, corporate doesnt give us a system to save names and phone numbers, we use taht for shops only. We get alot of 1 time customers in here, so it would just take up space.

He said that he'd only help his friends. Otherwise he'd watch the person be wrong.

Nope, Im actually known as the nicest person there, you should meet my other two co workers lol. They've been in the business for a good 20+ years each, me Ive only been in it for about 3 1/2 years. It says it right on the reciept, its out of my hands, as well as the store's hands, coporate charges us for everything, and what teh return rules are, so were limited on what we can do really. Once again, we cater more to shops then walk in customer's, not that our minds are focused soley on shops, but we could be soley dependent on them if we wanted to ,and still sit comfortably. What auto parts store do you work for LT ( just curious), Im sure you deal with johnny walk in mainly, so your rules are relaxed to accomadate them more so, unless you work for Conways, or South Jersey auto parts ( Which your central, so I don't know if you have those stores up there.)

I work for an advance, and yea, we normally bend over back wards to help out a customer if it is a legit thing and not a douche trying to return a blatant one use thing or similar.
