Unless the car comes with a kilo of cocaine in the hatch this guy is out of his mind.

I don't man, I'm a die hard thirdgen guy but unless it was a low mileage 91-92 Z28 or GTA I wouldn't pay $7500 for one. The only stock thirdgen that's worth some coin IMO is the TTA(and Firehawk of course).
Even if that car had the spoiler it's still not worth that kind of $$$, even if the body was straight. Just my opinion. I hope the value of these cars keep going up so when I sell it I can get more $$ lol.(and yes I'm toying with the idea of selling mine come spring time)

I was not saying it is a spoiler away from that price, I’m saying the missing spoiler is probably an indicator of other issues.
What any single person will or won't do does not matter. your personal opinion does not matter except to you, it does not change the market. The market is what it is. I would not pay $50,000-$100,000 for a 69 Camaro but they get sold at that level all the time. Nice, clean, reasonable mileage, generally unmodified IROCs and GTAs are going 6500-10000 now. A low mileage TTA is a whole different level. That is like comparing a GNX (regularly $100k+) to a GN.

4th gens are on a tough downslide slope right now. Just like 3rd gens were when the 4th gens hit the market. And the 2nd and 1st gens before that. There is a cycle prices follow. 3rd gen prices have bottomed out and are beginning to recoup given the right circumstances (which can be said for any year Camaro). They are moving out of used car market into the collector car market. 4th gens are still just used cars give or take some specific model outliers.

You're right, what I'd pay and what the market dictates are two different things. I just don't see most buyers willing to pony up that kind of coin for a thirdgen. Like I said, I hope the market jumps up, it would be more money in my pocket lol. It would be nice for some of these cars to get some recognition, that body style survived the smog era and towards the end paved the way for bigger and better things. I know some of you 4thgen snobs don't want to admit it(lol) but it's true.

you don't see/know those buyers like I don't know the 69 Camaro buyers, but they are out there.
and don’t misunderstand what I am saying. I keep saying nice & clean. Interior is A-/B+ or better, no seat rips, everything works, nothing is hacked. Paint is A-/B+ or better, no rust, everything is there and clean. It’s hard to imagine any 3rd gens still exist as we all see them as ratty used cars owned by the likes of bubba. Hacks & mods are important to any collector car – hacks kill value and modifications can be a double edged sword. You gotta get by all that, those days are diminishing fast. These cars are being restored, and ones that were owned by older guys as Sunday cars and so forth are coming out of the garages too.
For example, Hardcore Paul’s IROC is likely a $10k+ car if marketed correctly.

Yeah good point, I'm forgetting about the super clean ones. Even Josh's is really clean/nice. Mine is "OK", it's a B I'd say(still gotta get the headliner done, been putting it off) and I couldn't imagine getting even $5K for mine lol
Good points.

If you have attended any good car shows last year, you'll have noticed the absence of hardly any 3rd Gens. Most of them wound up in the bone yards due to the fact that they were the start of the "BIG" 350 Vette motors in some of them, and most people drove them into telephone poles or just beat the crap out them. Just listen to the people that appreciate these models and you will hear that their value is increasing (with original mint condition). My car is 20 years old now and when you drive around, you notice that you might go all day without seeing a 3rd Gen on the road.

I get caught in the whole frame of reference thing too. I still don’t get what makes a hemi chrylser or shelby mustang worth 250,000+ but then again those are not the circles I travel in. I like cars I can drive, not museum pieces.
If I had the money, which I do not lol, I’d rather pay $125k for a killer pro-touring built 1st gen I can drive the wheels off of over a $125k nut & bolt restore I’m afraid to push into the daylight. But that is just me. Oh and that is the $$ trend too, judging by cars I’ve seen sold in the past 6-12 months. Tasteful, bad ass, high quality pro-touring 1st gens are going up daily as some people like to buy top shelf drivers. But that is another topic.
Another example, it looks like Steve sold his Monte SS in the $9000 range. But I got told no way, that can’t happen. But WTF do I know?

Just in the past few years are we really just seeing the 2nd gens coming out of the woodwork now. Especially the 74-81s. That is part of the cycle. 3rd gens are very slowly coming out too. I suspect it will be a few years before the increase begins to be noticeable.

I agree, I could never EVER own a nut & bolt full resto. My uncle does that. Has 2 '64 Impalas(one vert, one hardtop SS), 2 '57 Chevies, a '64 Biscayne(2nd highest rated in the country) and a few other cars. All are full resto's. If he has to wait 4yrs for the right door handle then he waits 4yrs. He doesn't really drive them which is a shame. They're all well built, gorgeous cars. If I spent that time and $$$ I'd drive the balls off of them lol

Exactly. How about paying $4000 for 69 Z28 cowl hood OE hood insulation? Makes a $7500 3rd gen look like a bargain!

I'll just chime in with my $.02 - if that car was clean, all original, and without the dings/rust mentioned in the ad, he might get $6-6500 from the right buyer. The right buyer would be a guy my age who had one just like it 20 years ago in HS and now wants to relive the past.

When I see 4th gens, they are usually v6's or stockers that just look stock. There isn't enough metal on a 4th gen for it to rust all ****** like a 3rd gen anyways

But there's plenty of mechanical stuff to go wrong, urethane to spider, and cloth to rip.
