trans stuck?

im at work so im gunna summerize...

in the process of takin the trans out, everything is off the trans(2 cooler lines, shifter thing, all electronic, trans crossmember, torque arm, and all the other obvious stuff is off) the converter is unbolted from the flexplate and i can spin it with my hand. now heres what gets me, i took 2 bolts off the bottem of the bell, 2 on each side, and 3 on the top. total of 7 and this trans is not budging off the motor! the new trans i got has 8 holes for bolts on the bell, nd 2 others for the line up pegs i guess?(between the 2 side bolts on each side) but the one at top passenger side on the trans thats in the car has no bolt in it, and it looks like solid behind it, so like nothing can go there? any idea? could those "pegs" b so corroded per say that is keepin the trans on?

When I the pulled the trans on my truck the alignments pins were really corroded/rusty. I was able to work the trans out with a prybar, go over everything again and make sure it's all unbolted before you start prying on stuff. If you can spray some wd-40 on the dowel pins it may help to loosen them up.

I think its 8 bolts? Did you get the one at the way top? We pulled the intake on Kirk's car to get it. To break it free, I would just lift up and down on the tail shaft housing while slowly pulling rearward.

It could be hanging up on the dowels, yes. If you are SURE you got all of the bolts out you can try pushing up on the back of the trans, and if that doesn't work, rapping on the trans with a rubber mallet or getting a pry bar in there. Keep in mind you are working with aluminum which you can damage if you are not careful.

well as far as the trans goes its not going back in. the one at the tippy top is out thanks to about a 5' extention. im gunna get back under it if its not raining when i get out of work. theres 8 bolt holes on the new trans bell, but only 7 out of trans in the car. but as stated, 1 hole deff does to nothing. the dowels are RUSTED. like big time. ill soak em in pb blaster i guess.

its probably just stuck on the dowels try moving the tailshaft up and down and side to side, if that doesnt work you could try a flat pry bar just be really careful

Throw 2 bolts in it a few threads so when it beaks loose it doesn't fall down and kill you. Unless you're going for a Darwin award, in which case you should just lay underneath and shake the trans up and down vigorously until it falls and smashes your cranium.

Push up on tail shaft, get a tiny gap, insert pry bar, slam trans on pry bar.
Repeat.

Just be careful to not crack the aluminum.

I would not pry too much considering the block is aluminum and I'm sure the OP wants to keep that nice and crack free.

No one pointed out the obvious about the 7 vs 8 bolt holes thing. One of the holes is not used. There is no hole on the head for a bolt. 7 bolts is right.

Edit, im an idiot. I meant there is no hole in the back of the block for one of the bolts.

my pops is currently under the car with PB blaster, a small pry bar and i turkey sandwich. so im going to go out there now. trans is snug to a trans jack, so its not gunna fall. if this doesnt work, were going with matts push and smash method. if not well see...

no part of this(trans, verter, flexplate) is going to be reused, so damaging that doesnt concern me, i just dont want to mess the motor up in any way.

the trans does move a tiny tiny tiny bit, enuff to see the fluid "move" were the bell meets the motor on the bottem.
