Advice on buying motorcycle without title
I found a bike I really like for a good price. It needs some work but most importantly it does not have the title. I looked the DMV website to find out what needs to be done in order to title it, and while it looks like a pain, its do-able I guess. (Form and instructions can be found here.) I don't plan on riding the bike anytime soon so how long it takes to title it isn't a concern.
With all that being said, anyone have any experience buying an Un-titled vehicle than titling it? Any tips for doing it? Is it worth it or should I stay away?

I used Broadway Title when I bought my Harley with no title. It's much easier for them if the bike was last registered in another state besides NJ. Best $200 I could have spent compared to the headache stories I've heard.

What kind of bike and how much? That information will determine if it's worth the trouble.

Also. Where is it now. If it is in another state (pa) would be ideal. You might want to see of you can get the current owner to title it before selling. As it will be easier

Its an 82 Kawasaki KZ550, about $250. Seller says he brought it from an estate sale which me even more leery of buying it. I'll probably end up passing on this one.
Thanks for the help everyone. I'll use it for future reference.

i got a 06 GSXr in pieces back in october, i picked it up from the middle of paterson from a garage that had a BUNCH of bikes in pieces. i planned on just buying a frame with a clean title and putting everything onto that. sadly i lost my friend in a bike accident less than a week later and forced myself to sell it

Something is going on with Broadway and other re-write companies. I'd tread lightly now.

I would need to search through some of the sites, but there are people running into problems with vehicles they titled through a service like Broadway. I think some of the vehicles are even being given state issued VINS. Not a good thing, especially if you have an original musclecar that had a ton of $$$ dumped into it. It sounds as if the service Broadway provided was not done properly in each state so the titles are invalid in a lot of states. I would look at a vehicle titled by Broadway the same as a salvage title in terms of value.

Yup. They are recalling some of the Broadway-issued titles.
