Nikon or Canon.
I like the Canon brand and Rebel series, but then again I get to shoot with a 5D Mark II from time to time and it spoils me.

I have a Nikon D3100 that I picked up last year - entry level model but takes excellent pictures. I know they have a new version of it. Canon is the only other brand to consider at lower price points.

Canon for sure. Starter DSLRs like the T3i or step up to the 60d.

Another vote for Canon (Nikon makes nice cameras as well though). I have had an entry level Rebel XS for a few years now.

A camera is essentially a camera. Go to the stores and fidle with them whichever feels mor e comfortable get. I myself prefer a canon, I have a rebel as well.

She ended up getting a Nikon. Seemed like a better deal with another lense, bag, card, etc.
Thanks again for the help.
