3rd Gen Overhead Console
What year(s) of 3rd Gen Trans Am / Firebirds had the overhead console option? I assume it could only be had with hardtops, but has anyone seen an overhead console put into a T-top?

ive did some checking on places that sell them and it doesnt specify if its jsut for hardtops so it could be used for both i am assuming. it is also good for all years 82-92 but not a berlinetta.

Theirs two seperate versions. One for ttop cars and one for hardtops. They were on both, but they were different. (mounting etc)

the overhead was an option on camaro and firebird models from 84-92 for both t-top and hardtop.
you can tell which roof the console was for by looking at the end that would be closer to the windshield. on hardtop models it will slope down to follow the way teh roof line meets the glass and on t-top models the top stays flat as it comes to the windshield.
they are pretty easy to find in junkyards, usually can be had for between 3-8bucks. as you look around check them all to see if they hve teh flashlight still intact, they are getting hard to find.

<---ttops and center console.
I acutaly have never seen it on a hardtop car? It would look odd on a hard top car? Fits nicely on teh TTop car.
There is nothing all too cool about it really. It has the dome light and map light. But it does have a really cool flash light! 8)

My friends 92 Z28 Hardtop had it. But I think he took it off his old 88 Iroc.

Thanks guys. As I look around for a third gen trans am to restore, I was wondering if I should consider the overhead console. My daily driver (SUV) has one, but its the digital display with several compartments, etc. The console for the third gens seemed rather plain, with these... bead-like things, almost like an abacus. What's up with that?
Anyway, thanks for the year info. Helps me with the decision.
