Apparently, cost played a leading role in the decision, as the expense involved in developing and certifying a proper V8, and massaging the new-for-2004 F-150's chassis, was deemed prohibitive.

at least they admit they can't build good V8's, whatever the excuse may be...

it's officially "postponed". I find it funny how SVT had three cars a few years ago and now they have none.

Dont knock Fords, man. 98% of all Fords are still on the road...the other 2% made it home.

funny that they were so proud to have that niche segment of performance full size trucks so locked up until there was competition in it.
typical ford, be the best in a market no one else is going for and run the second another manufacturer shows up.

ROFLMAO, that's the funniest thing I've read in months!!!
Let's see; 5.4L 2 valves per cylinder, supercharger, putting out 390hp. GM; 5.7L 2 valves per cylinder, no blower, putting out over 405hp in a car which has tighter emissions standards .
Seriously though, they were rather nice trucks but I'd never own one. I'd just go straight for the throat and get a sy or ty with 2 fewer cylinders, 1 less liter, 600lbs lighter, AWD, and a turbo for half the price .

Ford didn't run away with the pony car. They just let GM do what they do worst... marketing.
It's funny how the big 3 fight now a days. Dodge was first with the v10 vipers owning the road but last with the high performance trucks . They had the engine for how many years before they thought it might help their image to put it in a pickup....
GM's SS.... what were they thinking? Almost like GM said "hey guys, we have to do SOMETHING" and an engineer said "make it pretty with AWD and we can get back to designing wrong wheel drive cars." caddy engineer, "damn those chevy engineers got it tough working with wrong wheel drive all the time."

The L is a nice truck...but even Ford knows there is no more room for this truck.
With the new F150 getting a new body, they couldnt see making a 2dr, short bed model only for the L. I belive ALL F150's have 4drs, be it suicide doors, or a crew cab.
Now, you have the SSR and SS Silverado. The SS Silverado was a head of the curve if you look at it. GM knew a crew cab, AWD, high-hp truck will probably be a better idea then making a 2 seater niche car.
And with the SSR, it covers the very limited hot rod pick up market, and does it quite well. For a bit more the price of a new L, you now can get a 400hp, 6spd manual, hard top vert 2 seater roadster truck.

the SSR is a 6? I honestly thought that GM was going with the vintage feeling of a 4 speed.

least thats how it is in Project Gotham Racing 2. Figured that would be accurate, since pretty much everything else in that game is acurate. They even got details like the porche spoilers on the carrera and carrera gt lifting up at a certain speed

The 04 SSR had a 5.3 making 300hp, and a 4spd auto.
The 05 SSR has a 6.0 making 400hp, and has either a 4spd auto, or 6spd manual.

Nope, 5.3 making 300hp. Plans were for a 6.0 345hp H.O. motor inthe concept, then news of a supercharged 5.3 making 350hp, but they settled with the all-aluminum 5.3.
