New Tax Being Proposed

I just saw this on the news... might be a repost (i didnt bother looking)...

Someone proposed a tax to the owners of vehicles with the 'manufacturers final weight' of 5000 lbs or more... of $250 per year ... Reason? They say "everyone is buying these heavy SUVs and its destroying our roads" (not quoted exactly, but along that line). It should be somewhere on nj.com

Its going to be called "Road Tax" ahaha

in some states owning a vehicle that has a GVWR of 6000 lbs or more will give you a tax break.....supposedly...

kinda don't make sense

Good, that law makes sence. It's a proven fact that bigger displacement doesn't necessitate worse gas milage (although more likely) BUT a heavier vehicle will ALWAYS require more engery to move and stop. They polute more and induce more wear and tear into the road. Most SUV's don't get used to their potential... ever. So there's gotta be a downside to buying a big vehicle other than the cost in mileage. I think the commercial vehicles are doing everything they should but the SUV's are out of hand. I say tax em the $250 or better yet, just come up with a tax based on vehicle weight. Example: 2000lb vehicle pays $200 for vehicle registration a year. 4000lb vehicle pays $400. Or is that too much math?

There was a tax loop hole that said if you had a SUV that was larger then 6k lbs, you could write it off on your taxes. Its been stopped now.

I dont own or want to own a car that heavy.

They already charge you more for your yearly registration if you own a truck. Screw them if they think they're getting more of my money!

I didn't know they already charged more for truck registration. If that's the case then wtf are they doing with this tax? It should be a one hit deal, not multiple taxes for the same reasons! Although it should still be based on vehicle weight. An owner of a small pickup truck shouldn't pay the same registration as a full size or a heavier car.

He spent over $30 Million in useless ads and commercials, ... like the "DMV" (which is now MVS) and running for office again... what happens immediately after? He resigns...
